The County Bounty

Fans of Ross County must have been saddened by last night's "shock" result from Tannadice.

Firstly; many will be upset that the team they genuinely follow follow have been knocked out of the competition.

Moreover; with semi final income being pooled and shared between the four clubs reaching that stage, the fact that one semi is now unlikely to attract a crowd much above five figures means that their anticipated income from their Hampden outing will be reduced by a good fifty or sixty thousand pounds.

Hard to imagine the Celtic hoardes being too excited about their semi either, unless they have a new manager by then.

Although it's now all they have to play for.

Aye & wouldnt it be hilarious if Celtic come away with no silverware this year :lol::lol:

Can't see them getting anywhere near ?500,000. That report was before Rangers were knocked out, and that will cut the gate at the other semi vastly. Rangers v Raith would have had a crowd of around 30-35000. Dundee Utd v raith will be lucky to get 12-15000. If tickets were ?25 each thats approx ?500000 less in the pot

Even if your figures were accurate ( which I doubt ) then say 15 000 at Utd semi plus 35 000 at County semi @ ?25 a ticket = ?1 250 000 in gate receipts to be split 4 ways = ?312 500 each , add in the Sky money and prize money then your getting close to ?500k .

Obviously all the figures are hypothetical at the moment. Is it not the case all gate reciepts, TV monies, merchandise etc are all pooled. But the figures what ever they are, will be split 5 ways. SFA will need to get their cut, further reducing any income.

So using your logic the SFA will get 1/3 of the finals gate receipts as well ?

No, I believe the figure remains 20%

When Ict had a meeting at TCS with the fans to see if they backed the proposal for SPL football, I'm sure they mentioned that we had just about broken even financially and that was due to revenue of @460k from reaching the semis.

Do clubs earn money for winning games, from the cup sponsors?

SFA Scottish Cup Rule 46 section g states

The reciepts from the semi-final matches shall be pooled and shall be deemed to include monies recieved from all admission charges to the matches, radio and television fee's and any monies from advertising within the stadium specific to the competition.

The association shall retain 10% of the balance after payment of the expenses for staging the two matches and the club's guarantee's (the guaranteed prize money)

The remainder, after payment for rental of the ground shall be shared equally between the four clubs.

My guess is that a total of 60,000 spectators is a realistic number. DU 18000, Celtic 30000, RR and RC 6000 each.

Average gate based on large percentage of youngsters (historically a family affair) ?15 making gate reciepts ?900,000. TV and radio maybe ?300,000. Total ?1,200,000

Policing, stewarding and other costs of staging the comp ?250,000. SFA cut ?95,000. Stadium hire ?20,000 (guess) leaves ?835,000 / 4 = ?208,750 each. + prize money

Think they'll struggle to see anything like what's been generated in past years. For a start there's less competition for the TV rights so that will have likely dropped, add in the effects of the current economic climate and sponsor prize money is likely to be down, advertising down, attendances down. You then factor in the loss of one of the old filth and attendances take a second hit.

Still reckon they might get somewhere on the upper side of ?300k, but ?500k is a bit of a pipe dream...IMO.

In saying that, I wouldn't be complaining if whatever the figure is was coming to us and it has to be seen as a major bonus for C*unty's bank balance.

Think that ?300,000 will be pretty close to the mark.
