Local hostility

I missed seeing todays game as I attended a wedding at the Kingsmills Hotel, (I'd have watched it online otherwise) and experienced a phenomenon I thought was just heresay..........that of the "refusnik". Having browsed this forum on occasion, I had got the impression that there were a mere handful of locals who weren't fully in support of ICT. Today was an eye-opener in that respect. As is the case at such occasions(the wedding, remember?), the male contingent made for the nearest TV for the full-time results. Well........suffice to say, apart from a 90 year old gentleman, the rest of the company were less than pleased at the point ICT gained, and before anyone goes off on a tangent, only a couple of the fellows in attendance were of the Ibrox persuasion. Not wishing to ruin a good wedding with a bout of fisticuffs, I kept my opinions to myself, but I've got to admit, despite Charlesbannermans statements to the contrary, the anti-ICT sentiment in this city is as prevalent as ever, and some of these grey-haired chaps are, whilst normally quite genial and easy-going, still openly hostile to all things merger. The 90 year old guy obviously had immunity! I really do think I could have taken a clout had I said anything (not being 100% local, my loyalties have never been an issue). I think, not having been a regular at Telford Street or Kingsmills, I haven't betrayed anyone. Obviously this isn't the case with folk who were born & bred here.

Its a bit much when you have a couple of tims scowling at you right after you've taken 2 points from Ibrox. I've just spent several hours being told by a couple of old guys that if Caley had been allowed to go it alone we'd have had none of this acrimony. Confusing place this. Having read the history, I cant see what was gained other than league status at the expense of disenfranchising the very people who were keeping local football alive. And why merge with Thistle when Clach were far more succesful? Sorry if I'm going over old ground, but after seeing the local reaction to todays result (albeit in one location) I'm more than a little bemused.

:bullshit:

That is all.

Can we close this thread now please? Or at least start another forum for those who wish to discuss this nonsense again and again.....and again.......and again......ad infinitum.

I'm sorry........I wasn't aware I'd struck a nerve.

It's just so boring.

Not all those against ICT in Inverness were Caley or Thistle fans, there are lots of Clach fans who couldn't be happier than when they see ICT lose. The fact those same Clach fans have let their own club slip away into oblivion over the last few seasons is indicative of how seriously they should be taken.

The stayaway Caledonian & Thistle fans do not amount to much lost revenue in the grand scheme of things when you consider the mentality they bring with them. I'd rather one teenager at TCS than 2 of the "rebels" anyway. They are depriving themselves of a decent saturday afternoons entertainment. Their loss, not ours.

We have a great support and it is steadily growing year on year with youngsters being encouraged along too.

The future is bright, let the past go.
