PITCH INSPECTION(Last Saturday's) GAME OFF

Has Anyone came up with a better solution to the forking the pitch method. How about old towels on the puddles, wring them out on to a sledge and fork when there isn't a puddle.

Hairdryers?

Jim Spence tweeting that the second inspection will take place at 11:15. There's an area of the pitch with no grass that is causing concern.

Given that United have raked in over four million pounds in transfer fees lately and are boasting about being debt free, it might have been prudent of them to have spent some money on what has never been a great playing surface..

In Perth now. Shocking to have the inspection at this time of day. Thanks spfl, pathetic

Aye, commiserations to the fans who've set off to Dundee. Frustrating for everybody, including the players. I've often thought that where one team's travelling significant distance, and there's a question mark over a game going ahead, to err on the side of caution, and postpone the match the night before. But, sometimes that would result in games being off that could have actually been played. Damned if you do...damned if you don't. It's ironic that there's been much talk this week about all-weather pitches!

As Kingsmills suggests, it may be no bad thing (the postponement) - it also vindicates Yogi's 'complaint' about the wisdom of the busiest month for clubs being in January! Although, none of that is any consolation for those who've made the trek to the game.

At least there's not long until the next match - St Johnstone on Tuesday.

Raven's suspension will now be in that game - along with Tansey. A few changes to the usual starting line-up will be needed!

Safe journey home to the 'die-hards'.

Don't really want to point fingers. But if it's off due to a frozen goalmouth it suggests to me that the undersoil heating wasn't on. Crazy after the weather this week

According to Dundee United, the under soil heating has been on since Thursday morning. As way of appeasement, they've announced that the re-arranged game will be a straight £5 admission for all - but again, that's of little consolation at the moment!

At least they are trying to make amends.....Fair play to them!

Here's the spiel from http://dufc.co/news/club-statement-6/

January 17, 2015

A Club spokesperson said: “Naturally we’re very disappointed the game can’t go ahead due to the sub zero temperatures we have experienced overnight. Despite taking every precaution and our undersoil heating being on since first thing on Thursday morning, there are patches of the pitch that are a safety hazard for the players particularly in and around the goalmouth areas. We don’t want to take any chances with player safety and as such, while we wanted to give the game as much chance to happen as possible, we also wanted to give fans adequate notice to save unnecessary travel.

“We have also decided that, as a good will gesture in appreciation of the effort being made by supporters at this time of year, we will let supporters of Inverness and Dundee United attend the rescheduled fixture for £5.”

Good on them but I feel heart sorry for anyone who has already traveled to Dundee today or got close, shouldn't be happening in this day and age of communication as it is or should be.

A key question is at what time was a decision made to have an inspection?

Call me old fashioned but football matches used to be played on frozen pitches all the time and I don't recall any issues with injuries. A home Scottish Cup tie against East Fife at Telford Street Park (no undersoil heating) being one example. Players adapt to conditions!
