Newly Formed Events Commitee

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I've just read on teletext the club have formed a 4 man events committee charged with improving the clubs finances.

They will be looking for input from supporters in how to raise cash. Mike Smith is quoted as being one of the 4!

The other three being Darren MacKintosh (commercial exec at club), and Les Kidger and Kenny Cameron (responsible for organising a lot of the stuff surrounding Barry's testimonial)

I welcome this ... perhaps these guys can come up with ways to raise money to facilitate some of the suggestions that might be made via BB. I particularly welcome Kenny C into the mix as I spent more than two years working with him on BB so know that he knows how to listen to the fans.

Seems to be a good balance of people in there. Les Kidger and the Wilson Testimonial Committee (great name for a band) did a great job with Barry's whole testimonial year, Kenny Cameraon, as Scotty said, is someone who I trust to at least listen to the fans. Despite the criticism Mike Smith gets from time to time (from me also), there's no doubting his ability as an accountant...so you can be sure the books will balance....and to be honest I'm not really that familiar with Darren, but I believe he was instrumental in things like the Casino nights etc at the stadium.....I believe he's also a bit younger than the rest so should hopefully balance out opinion on what appeals to a wider matrix of people.

My first suggestion would be that they get together with the Supporters Club and Supporters Trust in order to co-ordinate events, and where feasible come to some arrangement on running certain events as joint initiatives. There's really no need for 3 End of Season parties and the like which we have witnessed the last couple of years....get together, share the costs and everyone benefit from the increased profit margins.

Sounds like the new events commitee will be a great fund raising venture. The guys on there have recently proved to be effective in that area. Les did a great job with Barry's testimonial year, Mike is obviously a very capable administrator (despite what some people of this forum might think, I believe the club is fortunate to have someone of his ability and experience in place), Kenny is a straight talker and was apparently a breath of fresh air when he was on the board, Darren appears to have revived the fortunes of the commercial aspect of the club (especially his shake up of the hospitality packages) and the recent golf day was a great success (raising ?27k at that sort of event is impressive).

I'd imagine there will be some co-ordination to ensure events are not replicated by them and The Supporter's Trust & The Supporters Club. Can anyone enlighten me as to the roles of these 2 entities, by the way? Why are they not under the same umbrella?

Also Darren is 34/35 (a friend of a friend was in his class at school - Inverness is a small place!). So, IMHO he ain't an old b*gger, but these things are relative I suppose!

It is encouraging that the club are being proactive about getting the finances back on an even keel, instead of hoping for a better league placing or an extended cup run to boost the coffers and I am sure that all of us on the forum will get right behind their efforts when we can. :rotflmao:

Good shout, football income alone if things don't go your way in the cup or you have a disappointing league position is not enough to make the books balance in a SPL football club. More and more clubs up and down the country are looking at non football ways to raise cash and if on the way they can give something back to us the fans in the form of events then it will make for exciting times ahead.

I wish the commitee all the very best and look forward to seeing what Kenny, Les, Mike & Darren come up with.

p.s. No other business could survive on being open for 19/20 days a year, a football club is a business so why should they be any different!!!

I'm glad the satirical nature of my comment wasn't lost on you :rotflmao:

Despite his protests to the contrary Les has a few years on Darren! :thumb04: :018:

I think that this is a good move on behalf of the Football Club. I do know that working with the Supporters' Trust and the Supporters' Club is very high on their agenda and I suspect we could see more joint events in the future. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

The Supporters Club and The Supporters Trust met today with Les and Kenny to have a chat about how things might progress and ongoing dialogue is high on the agenda. The meeting was very constructive and we now plan to meet every few weeks to discuss events etc, which will avoid any further clashes.
