Inverness Caley Thistle v Nairn County

Holders Nairn County booked their place in the UMAX North of Scotland Cup final once again with an impressive 1-0 win over Inverness Caley Thistle at the Tullochs Stadium in Inverness.

Nairn County started the game on the front foot and went close to opening the score in the first five minutes of the game. Firstly Duncan Jones fired a shot in from 20 yards that was held by Johnathan Smith within 60 seconds then Jones saw a shot deflected over soon after.

In the 20th minute Richie Hart raced through the centre of the Nairn defence and fired in a low shot which was deflected away by John Campbell for a fruitless corner. There was little between the two teams but that changed in the 29th minute when Nairn took the lead.

Willie Barron raced down the right wing before picking out Duncan Jones. The midfielder played the perfect ball over to the back post where Darren SHALLICKER was on hand to ram it home.

Despite the introduction of Ian Black at half time Inverness Caley Thistle failed to take a grip of the match and in the 53rd minute David Macrae picked out Mike Sanderson who tested Jonahton Smith with a low 20 yarder which the goalie dealt with.

Minutes later that man Ian Black picked out Zander Sutherland who drove in towards goal only for his low shot form the right edge of the box to be blocked by the legs of John Campbell.

Zander Sutherland then swung in a cross from the right that was looped back across goal by Richie Hart however his header hit the inside of the far post and came out to a Nairn defender who duly booted it clear.

There was to be one last chance for the home team to force extra time when a high ball into the area evaded Steven Edwards. It was chested down by Richie Hart who fired in a 10 yard effort which was well held by John Campbell.

Nairn only really created 2 chances in the whole game, if I remember, and took one. Well done to them and with us having Munro, Hastings, Keogh, Hart and Black playing (all of whom really did sweet FA, Richie Hart very wasteful in front of goal with 3 decent opportunities).

Best ICT performances came from Zander Sutherland (very fast, very tricky and very direct. Went 1 on 1 with the keeper and kinda panicked I think when he really should have chipped him, made the chance himself though) and David Watson (my MOTM). Know nothing about this kid but he played the Russel Duncan role but much more mobile, eager and passing was top notch. Don't think he wasted a pass. When Blacky came on in the middle he was moved to right back and again was solid, didn't waste a pass and was full of energy.
