where has gary mackay-steven ended up???

i know it was mentioned a lot at the end of the summer, and i think he was offered a contract (pay as you play?). if he is injury free i see no problem in taking a six month look at him again?

I believe he's still without a club which seems very strange for someone who had such a promising start to his career. Ross C to Liverpool youth to Fulham reserves to dole makes me wonder whats went wrong.

Whats the point? none of these players are better than we have imo, Gardyne better Jonny? Brittain better than Russell? Vigurs any better than Eric??? leave it out mate. :yellowcard:

As far as I know (which is very little) in all of the comparisons you've mentioned the alternative player plays in a different position.

It was never meant as a direct player for player comparison, more as a skill/skill issue, and we have Nick Ross (now under21 choice) Morrison and Sanchez waiting for games so we really have midfield cover without taking gypo's on.

But thanks for your pedantic reply...

You're welcome

If you said is Gardyne better than Odi?? Vigurs better than Russell?? or Brittain better than Hayes?? your point would be made but instead you have made yourself look like a fool.

Pedantic again....<img src='http://community.caleythistleonline.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/******.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':******:' />

but correct

ok, take the personal petty squabbles to PM if you want to debate them ... lets get back on topic.

Of the three players mentioned, all are decent squad players, but as has been said, not sure how they would fit in and whether we could/would have the luxury of signing them to a squad place.

I trust Terry & Mo to make the right decisions .... They did (or were forced to do) certain things at Motherwell in terms of bringing through younger players and I think we can already see that happening here .... Ross, Shinnie, & Morrison already important parts of the first team squad and some of the signings he brought into the club are also younger players. If Terry/Mo think anyone at County would be an asset and they want to go for them, then fair enough, if not then thats also fair enough. I trust their player judgements.

Incidentally - like Yngwie, I wondered about Proctor as soon as I heard that CB was set to take over at Dungwall.

I've heard they've got a good striker by the name of barrowman.... rotflmao.gif

On a serious note though, we missed out on signing Alex Keddie. He's held in high regard by quite a few county fans I know. It's a sad state of affairs really when our feeder club over the bridge have such slim pickings for the NBT.

The same Alex Keddie who can't even break into the first team at Dunfermline :ponder:

True, it shows that County's squad are not all that great, great cup run to get to the final but they played well above their station to get there, cant think of any that would enhance our squad.

Where's that to55er smilie gone by the way??

Yep, Keddie is a terrible defender. The County fans I know were all glad to see the back of him. The also remarked that Keddie and Dowie, who have teamed up again at Dunfermline, was the centre back pairing that saw then relegated in 2006-2007.

Why do we want players From county?? Just look at Barrown.....however John Rankin and Don Cowie were good...

Contradicting yourself there! tongue.gif

To be honest, based on last season alone if we were looking for cover I'd maybe go for Gardyne or Brittain - no one else.

Not saying i want him gone but it is possible McCann could return to Hibs if Calderwood wants to assess him.

If so we could shift Duff to right back and bring in a new midfielder. I would like another attacking midfielder. Also would'nt mind some more defensive cover.

Tere=ry has always said he has only ever 'bought' one player, and that was at Motherwell, preferring to either get people on loan, or on a free transfer.

This would come into account in January im sure.

Which suits me if he's bringing in more players like Johnny!

Aye i can't see butcher getting any money to spend unless we sell any of our players that are worth decent money which i hope we don't!

What's happened to all of the players that dundee released?

Centre back cover and possibly right back if we don't hang onto Mccann.

I like Brittain but probably covers the same ground as Duff. Maybe not January but I would keep a look out as to how strong our squad is in July.

David McNamee is still looking for a club. I hope we can bring him in on trial perhaps to see if he's even half the player he was. RB position solved. Yeah, I know he's injury-prone but McCann isn't?

I agree regarding DM, it isn't nice to see players contemplting retiring, he may well do a job for us. I am certain he was linked with us a while back, i know this because i looked through the Rumour Mill Archive not so long ago or was it McCracken i was thinking about .

Personally I think it might be worth having a wee look at Hibs as opposed to County. Though I don't think anything could be done in January, they have 13 or so players out of contract. Might be worth mentioning to them in Jan that "If we stay up, we'd be mighty interested" I'd take Rankin back no worries.

Doubt we will sign much in January. Maybe a permanent right back should 1 become available. A Dundee player perhaps?

I think Proctor might get moved on. He is a decent and versatile squad member. Pretty much an identikit of Duff only not quite as good IMO.

Rooneys contract and a permanent solution to the right back berth should be priority.

Rankin?

I can't help wondering if he flattered to deceive a bit at ICT. Or is it that, what with Hibs not having played well for a good spell, Rankin went off the boil, Still I think he aPPEARS TO HAVE BEEN COMPETENT DURING HIBS BAD SPELL THIS YEAR SO ..WHO KNOWS.. MAYBE HE WILL SHINE AGAIN. Darned capitals agai--the curse of the Canadians.

If John Rankin came back here to Inverness it would be like he has failed in his move upward and I cannot see that happening at all. I think he will get better as the team does.

Any hibs fan I've ever spoken too seem to have time for him (I live in Edinburgh) as even when he isn't at his best he still works hard according to them.

He might be a bit one dimensional at times but some of his attacking attributes are handy. He's a little like Charlie Adam. Gets in on the goal action. gets around the pitch alot but can be a tad wasteful.

I think a decent right back should be the first priority

McCann on a permanent deal?? or at least until the end of the season.

I'm hoping McCann gets sent back to Hibs. Apart from his wonder goal against United he's been pretty poor

He got player of the week in todays Sun!!!
