The Alamo bar is about the closest to the ground, it is the one on Caledonia road next to the Caledonia Bar which is shut unless anyone can confirm otherwise.

Depends on how you travel. Busses will place you near the Alamo but if you go by train the last post (wetherspoons) is just outside the train station.
