I see Derek Riordan is playing for Hibs as number 01 now. This whole number thing has gone too far, especially with teams in America now using number 0.

Not much, but I'd rather they went back to 1-11. It's so much easier to understand.

I tend to agree with the old 1-11 numbered shirts these squad numbers help commentators and shirt sales but it was nice to see a No. 9 meaning a striker and No. 11 being a winger etc

Hicham Zeroualli wore the number zero for Aberdeen , this is nothing new.

He became the first player in Scotland to wear the shirt number zero in 2000 (something outlawed the following season by the Scottish Premier League.

Squad numbers came about when names started appearing on shirts. Too expensive and inconvenient to add names prior to each match when the team list is announced.

Fair point but still prefer the old way, stick the name on the shorts

Riordan's 01 is 10 in reverse as it was already taken - no excuse though....

All sorts of numbers in European leagues now - 55, 66, 77, 88, 99 when the 1-9 number is taken.

Players have also worn numbers 100+ to mark special appearances etc - 100, 200, 300, 400, and 618 by Ceni for Sao Paulo....
