As it says on the tin.

Our midfield is now just a complete joke. We should have one of the better defences in this league, but because our midfield is totally rubbish, the defence and attack are made to look very poor. No creation, no passion and no ball winners. No pace to help out the attack.

Something has to change and it has to change fast. We are now just another struggling football team and unless a miracle happens, we will be in the doldrums for a long long time to come.

Losing the likes of Black etc was difficult but maybe unavoidable, for me the biggest blunder was getting rid of Vigurs.

Pretty much exactly what i was saying to my dad just the other night. Always good to know your not alone in your thoughts!

No it wasn't. I would say it was certainly the latest in a long line of blunders but the first, and biggest mistake, was losing / not replacing Rankin when he left.

I was meaning in the Butcher era, but yes agree we have lost a lot of quality players and I know for a fact we could have held onto some off them.

Well if you are looking at it from the Butcher period then I would find it hard to disagree with that. I think Vigurs would easily be the best midfielder in the current set up.

I dont beleve we dont have a mid field, just a poorly chosen middle like...

Hayes, Cox, Foran, Imire, across the middle IMO would be our best bet, even thow in Mcbain, Ross or even Eagles with this level of support and the likes id say that'd shape up as a good attacking mid drift... Sanchez and barrowloads up front couldnt miss with the quality of balls from the mid drift, this would also free up the back like to consintrate on defending and not mopping up for the current Center mid player/ Players.... mistakes, we have a team there just isnt getting picked or played right...

Posted

Nah, wouldn't work having Foran as the attacking mid. Need someone with a bit of vision in there, not a striker/wide midfielder convert. Should be Vigurs but failing that McBain. Desperately need someone better in that position, so Cox can drop back in to Duncan's role.

Oh i know Forans not in that position, but we have a good quality of options in the mid field, its just the picker that seems to be making a mess of our mid drift.

I thought Cowie was brought in to replace Rankin and Imrie to replace Cowie. Iain Vigurs was supposed to be the man to fill in Blacks shoes but as i have stated in a previous thread, the club dont care about its local players

thats a fair point, TB by mistake found Hayes and he seems to be doing a job, but I do mean it when i say.. I beleve that was a flook, And im very greatfull to have Hayes and Cox for that matter.

Cowie and Rankin, at County, were polar opposite midfield players. Cowie did the spade work whilst Rankin finished moves off. Cowie was "converted" to a right side midfielder when he arrived but Rankins departure left us short of a goal threat and we were poorer in terms of creativity in the middle of the park as a result.

Loads if quality midfielders have been chucked from this club over the last couple of years and looking at it now it is clear that it shouldn't have been done.

RiG is right, Rankin should never have been let go although he would have left on a free had he still been here.

Richie Hart was another one. Despite his controversies there is no doubt he was a very affective player who would have made a difference had he played. Bazza should never have been let go either but Brewsters hatred of him meant he would never stay. Vigurs has been the latest one and that came back to bite us big time in the 1st derby.

Unfortunately there was no keeping Cowie, Morais and Black, they were out of our hands.

Actually....i would gone even further than to single out the midfield. I think this is the most unremarkable team we have EVER had. Think about it, in the past, we have always had good defenders (Dods, Mann, Macarthur, Teasdale, Golly etc), good midfielers (Sheerin, Robson, Wilson, Cherry, Cowie etc) and Good forwards (Stewart, MaClean, Wyness, Dargo, Ritchie).

We dont have any players of that Calibre now. We have a very ordinary and unremarkable starting 11!

It might be something people haven't touched on yet, and may disagree with, but I would never have gotten rid of Alan Morgan. He was far better on the wing than Eagle is just now.

I knew i forgot someone, thank you for reminding me Renegade. Morgan with the sweet left foot of his.

Vigurs is a huge miss and we really needed him this season. But i think with Imre back we will be better. In him, we have a guy who loves to run at defenders and is probably our most creative player.

Posted

This will be the Vigurs that was marked out of the cup game and was subbed because he was doing zip.

Think you are looking at The Vigurs thing with dewey eyes, he might make it but at the time TB was trying to make his own team ( yeah, i know it isn't working) and we obviously need more time.

Vigurs was dropped yesterday. We all saw potential in Vigurs but his release was hardly the turning point in our fortunes.

Dont get me wrong, he isnt the core reason for it. But his release was defo a big factor. He hs been great for county this season and i was told he was dropped for the rotation system County have.

A team of:

Esson

Proctor Tokely Munro Golabek

Ross------McBain------Hayes

Sanchez

Foran------Imrie

Would be an ultimately better team than the s***e we have to put up with at the moment.

Once Odhiambo is back, I'd play him on the right hand side in place of Ross to terrorise full backs and get plenty of crosses into the box from the goal line.

I like that, though i think i would do this...

Esson

Proctor Tokely Munro Golabek

Ross------McBain------Hayes

Imre

Foran------Odi

But i would consider changing Imre and Ross around.
