Been meaning to post this for a while. Discovered the band when their music was the background on the BBC series "Roaming in the Wild". They've pretty much been the soundtrack to my life since then. Didn't get tickets for the first ever gig in Aviemore last year as they sold out the 900 tickets in 3 minutes. Have now seen them 4 times including a 1900 sellout at Barrowlands. Mrs Mantis and I were at the Kelvingrove Bandstand last Sunday which was a simply wonderful summer night in Glasgow. If "The Glen" doesn't get you off your erse there's something wrong with you 😂

One of their vocalists sounds uncannily like the late Bruce Guthro of Runrig.  So they won't be getting any more of my attention

Though I do wonder sometimes how much great Scottish music I am missing by being down in the south of Engerland....

Harsh! A lot more to like… Andrew is the main man - no other vocalists. My wife loves his voice even though she can’t make out the lyrics 😅 I’ve seen him compared to Michael Marra but I can’t even imagine what Bruce Guthro sounds like as I lost interest in Runrig decades ago.

And you even get Mantis in the video  I have heard them on Radio Scotland and like the music.  Back to Runrig I preferred Bruce Guthro to Donnie Munro.

When our kids were wee we used the same swimming pool as Donnie Munro and his kids. Probably not allowed to mention that his missus was a real dream in a very classy looking pink swimsuit.
Also Calum worked as a PE teacher at our school.

That Canadian geezer sounds nothing like Andrew O’Donnell …
More like Glen Campbell 😂

Nahh, Donnie Munro for me every time. Just something smoother about a lilting west coast accent when singing. (Boydie not included!)

If I listen to the same song sung by either, I am almost always going to come down on DM's side. I think it is the Party on the Moor album or maybe another live album where BG introduces DM to the crowd and he starts to sing, and the difference is night and day. Both have their merits, but DM for me.

The longer I stay overseas, the more "shortbread tin" I feel like I get (Billy Connolly fans should get the reference).  Started listening to a bit of Runrig again recently after a few years of expulsion from the playlist, as well as P&D, Deacon Blue, Franz Ferdinand and others. Big Country has never been off the playlist, and Simple Minds are apparently in Toronto shortly, but I think I am already committed to something else that night.

Piping solo and bands, most Scottish and Irish music for me on the folk side my favourite. After doing my DNA on Ancestry I am 33 percent Irish so it confirms my leaning to the Irish side.

Or, as it’s called on P&B, “Birthday Caird Pish” 😂

We finally saw them this year in Glasgow after missing out a few times. It was on Mrs Mantis’ bucket list, being from the Hebrides. A good night, but once will do me. There are a lot of Stornoway in-jokes and it helps if you have a bit of Gaelic. Uilly and Innes are really just experienced wedding musicians but Boydie is something else and a fine guitarist.

Beluga Lagoon are headlining on the Sunday of this year's Eden Festival (this coming weekend) so thanks for the taster, I'm looking forward to hearing them live now.
