Tonight, 31st January, is also the first anniversary of one of the worst outcomes in Caley Thistle's history - the notorious 3-0 defeat at Hamilton which, apart from being a rotten result, also set something of a "tone" for some time to come.

Interestingly enough, on 31st January 2017 and 2018 respectively, Caley Thistle by 3 points and Ross County by 6 were both bottom of the Premiership, both having amassed 17 points. However a year ago, ICT had 15 games left to try to save themselves, while as of tonight, Ross County have only 13. This means that County now are in a numerically poorer situation - three points further adrift and with two fewer games left - than Inverness were one year ago.

After Tansey signed his PCA with Aberdeen he said he didn't want A relegation on his CV. Given where he is now, he must want TWO  relegations on it.

Highland Clearances as described elsewhere is not good for Highland football. Something seriously wrong over the bridge but Agent Draper and Secret Agent Fox now bringing the derbies closer by the minute. Despite a very high wage and lots of cash to bring in quality players, Coyle maybe has a better off field image than McIntyre, but he is showing he too is an ICT Special Agent.  Special Agents Rooney, Shinnie and Christie all played their part last night. Who will Ross County play in goal next Saturday at Dundee?

You forgot to mention deep cover relegation specialist B. McKay.

County are in a bad position but I wouldn't be surprised to see them stay up.  They have 13 games left and 10 of those will be against teams in the bottom six.  They are on a terrible run (12 without a win) but have played top six teams in seven of those games.  

The teams they are really likely to be up against in the relegation fight are Dundee, Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle.  I'd say that Accies and Dundee have been significantly weakened in the transfer window - Accies have lost Michael Devlin, Greg Doherty and Darian Mackinnon, Dundee are down Jack Hendry and Scott Allan.  County have done their usual and signed a lot of players - if at least a couple of those work out they could be boosted and it's hard to argue they've been weakened.

I think the split does help teams who are marooned at the bottom - you get a chance to cut your rivals throats and peg them back and you also get games against teams that have basically chucked it for the season.  Consider how awful we were last season yet we managed to win three of our last four games.

The other advantage they have over us when we were in a similar position is that they have a very experienced manager whereas we had a stubborn rookie who refused to take advice from those who knew better.

Yeah, that was the point - the final two games were certainly gimmes against sides who couldn't be bothered.

My view for what it is worth, If someone held a gun to my head and said " if you get it wrong I will shoot you" . I would say  , "County will come bottom and we won't win the play off."  Even if we did get into the shoot out, I feel Partick or Hamilton would be just  too strong for us at present.  Following our games against Dundee in the cup, we could pull off an up set, but I wouldn't put much money on it.

Speaking as a one time Owen Coyle fan ( When he was at Burnley )  I now think he has lost the plot and a good deal of his confidence ,  No I don't think Coyle will save County, but watch this space as they say.

It was probably a combination of both. Malpas may not be the best coach in the world but he is certainly a good deal better than Foran.

Had a quick look at the table. County have won 4 games. Away at Dundee and Kilmarnock early on, and home to Hamilton and Motherwell, the latter one being 4th November.

Their equivalent result to our thumping at Hamilton was probably being beaten 2-0 by Partick on 30th December. In either of those games an away win would have lifted us/them off the bottom.

I've always viewed this season as a rebuilding exercise..if we make the playoffs, all the better. Really don't expect us to go up, but if we did, it would be right up there with anything achieved by the club before (given the turmoil at the start of the season).

Think Laurence is right though..a Partick or Dundee would probably be too strong..but promotion through the playoffs would be a huge & unexpected bonus, although I fear we would struggle right now in the top flight.

Fully expecting a serious promotion push next season though....

no highland  derbies next season cos they will survive and we are nowhere near getting there. sad but realism must kick in.
