Incredible scenes on BBC News 24 just now. Paul Lewis of The Guardian posting updates on Twitter regarding the riots. Cameron is apparently now on his way back to the UK to chair a COBRA meeting to determine the Governments next move.

Do these morons not have a single brain cell between them? The country is in serious financial difficulty so they behave in a way which will the cost the taxpayer billions to clean up and which will only mean there is less chance of their neighbourhood getting better facilities. They complain about the way the boys in blue police their area and yet behave in a way which can only mean that policing will need to be tougher in the future. They steal from their friends and neighbours, destroy the liveliehoods of their friends and neighbours and take actions which cause injury and actually threaten the lives of their friends an neighbours. They are tearing the hearts out of their own communities.

But how do you punish the few that will get caught? Prison will do no good. We need to get these folk forced to do some good in society so they can learn to appreciate the freedoms we have in this country - freedoms which countless people over the years have died for in our armed forces. They should be forced to do some real work in clearing up the mess they have caused and in providing services to the needy in society - after all, how can the Government pay to care for the sick and elderly when resource has to be poured in to deal with this kind of situation. If they don't make a worthwhile contribution to society then why should society make a contribution to them. Lock them up and throw away the key.

This is why this country has gone to the dogs.....coz prison isnt about punishment....its about "rehabilitation". Thats where its falling down. Theres a problem with the system, when im watching a Newsnight Special from inside Wormwood Scrubs or wherever, and prisoners are actually saying that Prison isnt actually that bad....that speaks volumes!

I think you're probably confusing the first protests with what is happening now. This is no socialist revolution by the dispossessed but the natural order of a dumbed-down, neighbourless Britain obsessed with celebs and consumerism. Stealing Nike trainers and burning bakers (anybody make sure the flat above was unoccupied by babies or pensioners?) isn't a protest against police brutality, the cuts or racism - merely mindless opportunism by those obsessed with materialism. A right-wing rant? Nope, quite the opposite. Respect for community is left-wing (and what's left of One-Nation Tories - but they died out long ago).

Curfews? The Army? Tasers? Plastic bullets? Sounds good to me. The community isn't a bunch of kids having fun stealing and burning buses (buses for *!$%'s sake - the bastion of the poorer in society) but the ones losing their jobs over it, whilst the economy goes south.

But the rain is coming soon. The Arabs protested through bullets and an often fatal (literally!) heat for an end to dictators and torture. Ask these loons if they'd rather more social inclusion or an X-Box...well, it's not worth getting your hair wet when you've already get a Nintendo DX from last Xmas.

For my money it went wrong with 'greed is good' and 'no such thing as society' - and that's New Labour too in case you're wondering. This is the end result.

I think we're probably saying the same thing here. It is a sad reflection of the values certain people have these days, but it is more than just the culture of self, it is the complete lack of awareness that a sense of community enhances the individual. These events will be whipped up by a small handful of anarchists and the stupid and the greedy opportunists do the anarchists work for them.

There is no valid political statement in any of this behaviour and therefore no valid reason why a no nonsense, zero tolerence approach should not be taken in dealing with it.

It's not my country. Feck 'em!

I wouldn't be too complacent on that score. Watching how things have moved out of London and reached as far north as Liverpool I wouldn't be at all surprised if rioting was to extend to Scotland and Wales. It doesn't take a genius to work out that if the government are going to find 16,000 police to patrol London over the next few nights other forces are going to be short of effort making other cities vulnerable.

Probably referring to this as rioting is a bit wrong. Riots are usually triggered by something and usually have an end goal. This is nothing but youth gone bad. These people have no care for their fellow humans, nor for property. They are out for what they can get at any cost and sadly, in my opinion, society as a whole has created their attitude and desire. We have become a nation that molly-coddles rather than punishes and our modern methods of punishment do nothing to deter the hooligan element.

Prison today is likened to a holiday among those thugs.

The Headquarters of the company i work for was attacked last night and again evacuated today. Just seen the pictures, the place was trashed! My shares will be dropping!!!! As much as this pisses me off, I feel more sorry for the family / local busineses. I saw on the news a butcher or baker who's place was trashed to peices and it had been in the family for 5 generations. Their not attacking just the big corporate companies, they are attacking their own. Why the hell would the police not use water canons on them?! I'm quite left wing, i'm a socialist but this is sheer criminality. It's not a protest, there's nothing political, and they must be stopped straight away. No politically correct nonsense now. I hope folk up here don't get any stupid ideas either.

Because we don't have water cannons in the UK. They do in Northern Ireland. This was what was being said on BBC News 24 last night. I suppose you could use fire engines but they were busy enough without having to drench some looting welt.

It's a damning enditement of a country when our government are more interested in sending our army half way across the world to fight other people than actually defend their own country against their own and lets face it the army would have this sh@t storm in a tea cup sorted in a few days with their no nonsense attitude towards what can only be described as mindless thugs and morons who have no respect for anything at all not even themselves.

I was watching it all last night and one reporter using his mobile phone filmed and asked teenagers where they having fun and why were they doing it, the reply from one stupid girl was 'we are claiming our taxes back' - seriously do you even have a fecking clue what you are talking about, she didn't even look old enough to be working or working enough to be eligable to pay taxes.

I am all for bringing the army in and getting this sorted out, it would make a statement of intent from the government that they aren't going to put up with this and show these clowns who is boss, if I was also living in said areas would feel far happier and safer knowing that protection was out their rather than worrying if someone is going to force me to strip my clothes off just because he can by forcing intimidation upon another or whether I was going to be robbed by people pretending to help me or feering my house was going to be burnt down. Would most law abiding people have an issue with this, I think not knowing that all they are doing is going about their normal day to day business therefore the need for the police/army to approach them isn't there as they are doing nothing wrong but they could feel safer knowing they are there to protect and deter.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2024016/UK-riots-2011-YouTube-Sickening-moment-bleeding-teenager-robbed-thugs.html

Surely getting our own house in order is more important than someone elses - I say our own house as we are unfortunately governed on the whole by Westminster so come under the same tag and it would be fultile to believe we are immune to anything like this up in Scotland, anywhere up in Scotland that is.

The justice system is a joke and common values began to be lost when national service was abolished, I say bring it back but instead of it being compulsory to all make it only for those involved in crap like this and who feel the need to break the law and threaten, beat, steal and rob from others. Lets see if they can handle being beasted everyday just because they can't keep their mouth shut. Prison is a joke now-a-days and the systems we live with are so ridiculously hypocritical that unless radical changes come about from this the UK will become a laughing stock all over the world if it isn't already.

From the BBC

2244: An 18-year-old man has been arrested by Tayside Police in connection with Facebook entries encouraging others to gather in Dundee city centre with weapons to riot. The teenager is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Wednesday morning.
