Another visit to Cove is on the cards for The Caley Jags this weekend as we face a tricky away tie at Balmoral Stadium, the game scheduled for a 3:00pm kick-off. An idle weekend last week for most as storm Bert put paid to practically all the outdoor entertainment in Scotland. Our last visit to Cove was a productive one as we came away with all three points after coming from behind in Scott Kellacher's first win, which was added to the next week at home to Alloa Athletic. Nothing doing last week for either side due to Bert which will have given both sides an extra week to get players up to speed. League form goes out the window when it comes to the Scottish Cup, so hold on to your hollyhocks, it could be a bumpy ride.

Condolences to all at Cove Rangers as they learned of the death of a good friend, loyal supporter and colleague, Mike Pirie. Mike was a former coach, physio and kit man at the club, Mike’s association with Cove stretches back decades. Sincere condolences to Mike's family, friends and all who knew him. RIP Mike.

We have had the better of Cove in the fixtures so far, but these are difficult times. Just the one defeat, and that was at Balmoral.

The most relevant fixture was the last meeting: Caley Jags Get Vital Win: Top versus bottom ended in victory for the Caley Jags who climb into positive numbers at the foot of the table. Cove had made one change from the win at Dumbarton as they looked for their fifth win on the trot. Findlay Marshall replaced Arron Darge. For Inverness, graduate Sam Reid took his place on the bench with Lewis Nicolson missing. On the field, Charlie Gilmour returned to midfield to bolster the squad with Connal Ewan out injured and boss Scott Kellacher would be looking to get into positive numbers with his positive team talks. However, it only took Cove ten minutes to get in front through top scorer Mitch Megginson. Fortunately, Megginson failed to convert a first half penalty with Dibaga saving and two minutes later it was all square when Adam MacKinnon drilled high into the net. With 25 minutes left, Keith Bray popped up with a much needed and deserved winner.
Given the circumstances, this was a great result played out at Cove, sharpened at Inverness but made in the Isle of Lewis.

Some banana skin fixtures this weekend in the romance that is the Scottish Cup. We have had our fair share of giant killing acts throughout our 30 years existence and before that the exploits of Inverness Thistle and Caledonian were something to be proud of.

In season 1984-1985, the big Kilmarnock Bunnets were left lying on the turf at Kingsmills after the Division One giants were well and truly humbled 3-0 in the Highlands; a memory to savour. That result earned the Jags a trip to Parkhead in the next round where none other than Jimmy Calder was a substitute striker for the Highland League side. Go forward to 1992. Caley beating Stenhousemuir 4-1 in round2, Clyde 3-1 in round3 then taking Premier League St Johnston to a replay after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Telford Street in the next round before bowing out in the replay at Perth in front of 10,000 fans.

Latest Team News

Scott Kellacher is without Jake Davidson (knee) and Dundee's loanee Charlie Reilly (hamstring). Both players will be out for a lengthy period with Lewis Nicolson flitting in and out of the squad, presumably still nursing his way back to full fitness. The good news is that Keith Bray is getting over his shoulder injury and could come back into the squad for this one at the scene of his only League goal. 

Let's not forget that a wee Cup run could bring in a few Shekels for the Admin process. So good luck on Saturday guys.

Whilst getting league wins has to be our priority, a win today gives us a chance of a good payday in the next round.

Maintaining momentum is also important.

Young cove supporters vlog of today’s game. Fast forward the first 4 minutes of his build up, or watch from the start, and then see some of the chances we missed and the 2 cove goals. As he says “ anything can happen in the cup”

 

Maybe they fielded a suspended player??

Disappointing result. Love the Scottish Cup and ICT should always be in it beyond the first hurdle as far as I’m concerned. It normally takes a decent team to put us out.

November 30. Think this is the earliest we’ve been out. Went out in Rd 1 in 94-5 but that was a different setup and we were into December.

Mantis you are correct.
I had nothing on today, county away, no golf, so last evening decided I would go to cove. Had the mobile in one hand with the text ready, requesting a seat on the supporters bus. Thought I should look for a ticket first, so on to the ipad. Never been to balmoral stadium. Had the ticket in the basket but decided before buying and texting the bus I would google the ground. 
Didn’t like what I saw, flat standing around the pitch, little home stand and what looked like an away terraced cover for a few people. Deleted the text and the ticket.
so fixed a broken slate on the house roof that was damaged by the snow/ice last week. Took 5 mins, so had a lazy day……. Wouldn’t fancy that every Saturday, but just looked and it’s same next week. We are away to Montrose and county v rangers is 12 noon on the Sunday. Plus weather report is for snow all over Scotland next week with 7 inches forecast in some areas. Surely the SPFL…………….

Shame to be out, but I was glad to see that the rubbish sideways, plodding stuff has gone. Longstaff looked good, as did Robbie Thompson. Nolan did well, too, in the first half at least.

I was disappointed to see Billy have a right go at Robbie when Billy’s attempted pass sailed out. So what if Robbie did “point” where he wanted it; the ball was poor. Mistakes happen - as per Billy’s pass! - but there’s no need for the rage and finger-pointing. Hope his coaching style is different.

Penalty looked soft. Watched the Cove lad’s vlog, and it could have been one for VAR. But ref was keen to give it, and just as keen to give what looked an equally soft free kick just outside the box.

Unlucky, but never mind boys, we love the Scottish Cup, but the league is definitely priority.

End of November and we are already out of all 3 cups and have absolutely no chance of winning the league. Worst season ever in that regard, yet we still have so much to play for!

I think that this season, there are only two objectives - to survive as a club and to avoid relegation to League Two.

As regards the latter, my most positive take on today’s football is that Annan’s 2-0 defeat by Fraserburgh may be a further piece of evidence that they are in trouble, although I do also note Dumbarton’s cup result last night .

That was my third time but I only went because it was the Cup. Last season they had small temporary stands at each end but they’ve gone now. I’ve never attempted to park there. I usually go by train and then get the no 3 bus up to the Altens roundabout but then there’s a half mile walk through the industrial estate.

According to two people who were there, yes. The penalty was given as a corner by the linesman and there was a foul in the lead up to the second.

However, I’m also told that if we’d taken our chances in the first half that would all be irrelevant.

Whilst I wanted a win and a money spinning game next, this may prove a blessing given our thin squad, as we can focus on picking up points in the league, which has to be our priority.

Being relegated the thing that has surprised me most is the poor standard of refereeing in L1. Today's ref took the biscuit 2nd half though. At one point every tackle got penalised. Penalty looked a joke. The players reaction was telling as to a man they were furious. Lino had flagged a corner too. 

Did anyone else notice Devine getting a red after the match when he challenged ref again? Not mentioned by anyone I could see but I saw red card flashed and Danny walk off 

You'd almost think ref didn't fancy extra time.........

We were there - terrible ground to watch a game and zero atmosphere. Game was fast and furious-you appreciate that when your leaning on the lineside railing Plastic pitch doesnt help either. Match officials all VERY poor. linesman very petty/childish in getting manager booked for a simple question( may have included a swear but he's exasperated ) overall a poor game where we didn't take our chances and they got a very soft penalty -their second goal didn't mean anything -we had to go for the equaliser.

I actually like the standing on a railing bit and fair play to Cove not having segregation. However this ground must be in the worst situation in Scotland in the middle of industrial estate

Hopefully the bad decision making will somehow transform into determination on the pitch at our next game.

Well done to all the travelling fans. It sounds like a horror ground to visit, but I'm sure your support and all your comments about the refereeing will be of some consolation to the manager and team. It is good for them to know that the fans are backing them and don't just think that they are being sore losers.

Dust yourselves down boys and get back out there being the titanium team that we know you are.
