Charles--Aye!--make mine a "sparkling special".

And don't forget Ration Books --came in during the early 1940's and disappeared early fifties if I recall correctly.

Trying to get going in the morning after getting out of bed when  arthritis in the feet is a problem--ulp!

Not to mention starting the car in the morning with a starting handle...

and not forgetting to **** your thumb so that if the handle  kicks back the thumb  does not get injured.

SP - I have a recollection (of reading rather than remembering directly) that sweetie rationing stopped in around 1954. I think a lot of the other rationing stopped round about then as well. It seems that the era of post war austerity lasted a long time, so possibly the only pleasures at the time involved the procreation of a generation of Baby Boomers!

When teams played with a centre half - rather than two centre backs - Centre halfs were often referred to by the press as "pivots"..... A dirty centre half was a "robust pivot" .....!!!
