As the new season rapidly approaches us, does any really think TB is going to make anymore significant signings be4 we get going?

IMHO i think if he doesnt we are destined for the drop or are atleast going to struggle :S

The season starts in one week and the transfer window closes in about six/seven weeks so do you mean that if we don't sign anyone else before next week we are going down or close to the bottom anyway? If you are what about the four weeks after that, do they not count?

I have no doubt that we will see another couple of players coming in before the end of the transfer window and if you had been reading the comments made by the big man over the last week or two you would have realised that he recognises the need for another two or three players to be brought in and as such is working on doing just that.

As to what positions he brings players in that is another question, we'll just need to see.

I see your point but im in disagreement. No team in the SPL has really made any significant dent in the transfer market or signed any notable freebies. So i see everyone in the same boat. And before anyone mentions the Ugly Sisters...Face it folks, we have never struggled against them!

Sorry I disagree with you. What is not looking good exactly? How many players from the ones we released played regularly apart from the two notable ones? How many players have we brought in since the tranfer window opened which by the way has only been open since the start of July and as I said still has until the end of August to run to.

Come back a couple of days before the window closes if we haven't brought anyone else in and make your point then, give the manager a bit of time to build a new squad and then assess his signings fully. Things have only been highlighted further because of the earlier start to the season, in years gone by we would have had until at least the first week in August to get new players in before we kicked a league ball.

Lets get things in perspective.

Terry has said himself he would like to add to the squad even after the season starts, get a grip, their is still a whole month before the transfer window even shuts. Id be amazed if this is what we settle for.

Depends what you mean by struggle too. I think we'll struggle. But that's along with Hibs, Dunfermline St Mirren etc etc. I don't think anyone is certs to go down this year and I think the OF, Hearts and Dundee United have it sown up for the top, with 'Well pretty close to it. We've lost our top scorer and striking lynchpin, plus a stalwart and former (I remembered this time) captain in central defence. That's going to be tough. It'd be like St Mirren losing Higdon and getting rid of Potter, or Aberdeen losing Diamond and Maguire.

And of course, Killie, Hibs and St J have also lost big players too. So, yeah, it's going to be a struggle. But, to be honest, I think every single year will be. Let's just enjoy the ride and not fret too much before it's definite.

We are ICT.....not the OF. What is a significant signing. We will never sign Giggs or Raul or any other such significant player. We sign footballers who will compete with the same standard of players in the other teams, barring the OF, in this league. Even Hearts are looking at good but not exceptional players. We will compete. We will win games. We will lose games and we will finish up somewhere in the league come end of season. And who knows? We may be classing every member of our squad as a significant player by then.

This is the same OP that on the Aldershot game thread says "We should be pummeling these teams into the ground". I think he has rose tinted specs on as to the standard of SPL football. I don't think a bottom 6 SPL side is a superior side to a English second division side. I think much of this is down to money, I remember Brewster complaining that many Blue Square clubs could pay higher wages than the likes of us. Thankfully, we only have to compete with those around us and they have no money either. I'm optimistic about next season.

With the start of the new season being so much earlier than before it creates the illusion that all is not ready.

However it is only now in the last week that English clubs have really began pre season and therefore shut of many transfer option or more importantly loan options to other clubs as they need to assess their teams.

I dont think we'll have anyone else come Motherwell but by the end of the window I'd like to think I can jet off to Oz with the knowledge we've brought in a couple (particularly in defence) to bolster the team.

We really need a right back in my opinion. That has to be priority. I imagine Tokely, Aldred and Meekings can do the job in the middle with Proctor covering and Gilbert if need be perhaps but a Right back is a must. Preferably one who can bomb upfield and tackle.

I'm much more excited about our new signings such as Tansey, Meekings, Aldred, Doran etc than some of the pi5h St Mirren have signed and of course Barrowman for the Pars. Young guys that no team in the SPL wll really no about. This makes them almost uniquely ICT players rather than going for old guard that have been at various clubs. Of course though, the squad is extremely thin so we do need a couple more bodies.

And bring it on - good run outs at Bristol and Aldershot - any game away from home is difficult and BRFC gave us a good game. We have good enuff players - it is just IMHO is that they havent gelled as a team and I am unsure whether Terry and Mo are even sure of the rite starting crew - I certainly didnt like Hayes in a roving role on Saturday. It may be an old cliche but we have to give some of them time. But the deficts are clear to anyone and I would be really, really surprised if we dont get defensive cover and a centre forward before the window closes.

We have also been in 2nd and 3rd gear so far - Muvversmell will show us what do expect, fear or look forward to.
