Fixture congestion

One unavoidable aspect of our League Cup success is that we're playing these games when league fixtures are scheduled.

But with 2 unenforced fixtures to also 'catch up' on, we've now got 4 games needing re-scheduled!

Our program is packed between now and the 'split'. I can't see how we can get all our fixtures played. However, It's not our concern - the SPFL will have a problem though! I can't see how they can fit our games in before the split.

Saturday 8 February            Stranraer (a) Cup 5th round

Saturday 15 February          Hearts (h)

Saturday 22 February          St.Johnstone (a)

Saturday 1 March                 Celtic (a)

Saturday 8 March                 (Scottish Cup Quarter-final)

Sunday 16 March                 League Cup Final v Aberdeen (n)

Saturday 22 March              Partick Thistle (h)

Wednesday 26 March          Dundee United (a)

Saturday 29 March              St. Mirren (h)

Saturday 5 April                   Ross County (a)

To Play:

Ross County (a)

Motherwell (a)

Hibernian (h)

Motherwell (h)

There are enough Midweeks to sort this just - if Saturday leads to a replay that could make it harder. If ourselves and Motherwell are comfortably top 6, we could play one or both of those after the split as it would have no impact on the split. Although it would be weird to play the same team multiple times post split.

Will be playing twice a week during March. Could be tough.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this...

What we could do if we have too many games close together, to stop the players being burnt out and ensure we can still rotate the starting 11 as required, is just field 9 men in some games.

Nae bother tae us!  :ictscarf:

It remains a puzzle why the County floodlight failure game back in October wasn't rescheduled between then and Christmas. There were 2 months with no midweek games at all.

Was just going to say the same.  I can't think there can be a good reason.  Efforts should be made to get these games played ASAP because you simply don't know what is going to happen later in the season.  We are clearly going to have some level of congestion and if we get a period of bad weather in the next two months, the congestion could be worse still, requiring more than 2 games a week.  Smacks of County wanting to wait till they strengthened and for when it was most inconvenient for us in preparing for the latter stages of cup competitions.

The Gudgies were too busy worshipping the sun to make sure that it came back after winter to rearrange it. Or maybe they want to play it at a time that floodlights won't be needed. Just in case, like.

Because County wouldn't have been able to sign any new players until January.

Maybe we have appealed to the SFA for the three points on the basis that the boy Adams believed their job was not only to live in our shadow but play in it too!!

A bit spooky starting this thread the same day as the fixtures are announced!

So here's the updated list.

A very busy spell of 7 games in 21 days from the League Cup Final to the County game before the split.

Also notable is, despite the congestion, we've no home league games for over a month after Hibs visit on 18th February.......a period that sees us having 4 consecutive away league games at St Johnstone, County, Celtic and Motherwell!

Saturday 8 February            Stranraer (a) Cup 5th round

Saturday 15 February          Hearts (h)

Tuesday 18 February           Hibernian (h)

Saturday 22 February          St.Johnstone (a)

Tuesday 25 February           Ross County (a)

Saturday 1 March                 Celtic (a)

Saturday 8 March                 (Scottish Cup Quarter-final)

Sunday 16 March                 League Cup Final v Aberdeen (n)

Wednesday 19 March          Motherwell (a)

Saturday 22 March              Partick Thistle (h)

Wednesday 26 March          Dundee United (a)

Saturday 29 March              St. Mirren (h)

Tuesday 1 April                   Motherwell (h)
