Aaron Doran

Recommended Posts

Lots of talk of being embarrassed at being an #ICTFC fan on other threads but it is things like this that still make me proud to be one.

We rose as a COMMUNITY of fans, current and former team-mates, club staff (past and present), families of all of the above, and, it has to be said, also several football journalists to donate to this cause initiated by a former team-mate who himself went through injury hell and didn't get the support he needed and should have received from the club. £7K in less than 24 hours is great. Aaron will get his op and whether or not he plays football again, he should at least be able to play with his kids, which the article said he couldn't even do right now. That's the least he should expect after almost a decade and a half of loyal service. Look at the list of names in there and you will see many folks whose names you recognise but you may also notice - unless donating anonymously - the glaring lack of any names you might hope had developed a conscience and personally donated to the cause even if the club couldn't or wouldn't.

I AM proud to be an ICT supporter because it means i can stand with and mingle with people like our supporters and others in our team's COMMUNITY. The ineptitude, inefficiency and seemingly utter disregard for our club from those who should be speaking now will not deter me from that. THEY are not the club. WE are the club, whether we have been here for 30 minutes or 30 years.

Some familiar names on the list of donors. Scott Allardice, Robbie Deas, Cammy Harper and Roddy MacGregor. Also in there are the likes of Tom Grivosti, Lewis Vaughan and John Souttar who appears to have donated £250 which is very generous!

Lewis Vaughan knows more than anyone regarding this kind of injury. I believe he has already been through 3 with Raith.

Yes he's got a loyalty card.

If I got injured in my line of work I would be expecting the company to ensure I was put right even if that is 3 times.

Up to £8400 now, which is really good news for Aaron and no less than he deserves.

It’s simply shameful that he has been put in his position and I hope this shows him how much the ICT support, and wider football community, value his contribution.

I did hesitate on contributing as it feels like it is letting the club avoid their responsibilities. However he needs his op and I'll just deduct the amount donated from anything I might give the club in future.

Depends what line of work you're in I suppose.

Although if you're getting injured so much at work I'd expect some retraining and/or investigations.

Was happy to donate, and its wonderful to see so many people including ICT players and ex-players, and other clubs fans supporting this

This has reminded me of Tom Walsh's travails, I saw him go off at Partick Thistle in the play-off game, and he has gone through hell since, anyone know what his current situation is

Getting close to £10K now and if displayed names are genuine, there are some pretty recognisable names in there, including former club officials and staff, two former managers, and one assistant, players going back from now to 15+ years ago and even possibly one of our former CEOs or someone with the same name at least (no, not the current or recent CEOs).

Had his P45 e mailed to him before he had his op. ICTFC needs a fecking good clear out at board room/ managerial level going forward. Disgraceful behaviour towards such a brilliant club servant.

I can understand why he got it, but like others before him, the way it is being handled is not good. The man has given basically his entire career to ICT and not only did they allegedly tell him to 'walk it off' in regard to his ACL injury, but also then made him pay for the required op himself. (Thank goodness for Shane's initiative). He is, and will always be, a club legend. He is up there with the likes of Charlie and Rosscoe for length of service and has earned every bit of the respect he should be afforded. His playing career may be winding down (or over depending on the op results) but as a club we must treat our players (and other employees) right. There is no excuse for emailing a P45 to an employee. You do that face-to-face and look them in the eye, regardless of how uncomfortable a conversation it may be. Anything else is disrespectful or cowardly.

Its not going to happen right now given the financial precipice we are at, but I would love to see a situation where long-serving players (like Aaron) have career discussions with the club and the club helps them plan for life after football. Thats what happens when your focus is community. If it is clear a player has dedicated a large portion of their career to playing for ICT then is it too much to ask ICT to dedicate some time and yes, some resources and/or money to helping the player plan the next stage of their career after football, whether that is funding or subsidising coaching courses, college courses or something else to give them a way forward. Treating players like something on the bottom of your shoe will come back to haunt the club. Players talk, and a dissenting voice is louder than anything else. Treating them right can and will bring benefits in the end as players will see that the club cares, and that trek up the A9 may be less problematic than signing for Kelty.

I never thought the day would come when I would be ashamed of ICT, but I AM so ashamed.    And, we all know who looks at fans, and now players, like they are dirt under his shoes.  The man is an evil blot on our Club history and I, for one, will never forgive him.  If I could I would spit in his eye, I am so furious with him.

It's easy to blame one person and use Gardiner as a lightning rod but could no-one else involved do something about this?  Could the manager not have taken responsibility?  Could someone from the board of directors not have phoned him?  Graham Bennett must know how important a player Aaron Doran has been to the club, could he not say something?  Regarding his operation, Doran even named another director, Panos Thomas, as having fobbed him off with medical advice.   It's all well and good saying Gardiner is responsible but Gardiner reports to the board and they are ultimately holding the bag.

The whole board is responsible.  If the "hugely positive" talks with investors come to something then the entire board of directors should be replaced immediately.  A bunch of incompetent, arrogant, puffed up losers.

I’m not sure I would go as far as to say they should ALL be replaced because I’m sure there must be some good directors amongst them, but it’s hard to tell from the outside. Otherwise I agree with your point and have alluded to this many times.

There is plenty of criticism that is deservedly thrown at Gardiner and for various reasons he needs to go, but I thought it all turned into a rather distasteful witch-hunt at times, with him being the scapegoat for all the club’s woes when in reality he is just an employee and responsibility for all the clubs failures and bad decisions resides with the board of directors. Fans are much keener to blame it all on the ‘outsider’ than on a board full of ICT fans.

Pretty much echoes my own thoughts.  The prime responsibility to discuss these issues with players must surely be that of the manager.  OK, there is uncertainty about his position too, but ultimately it is the Board who are accountable and who should be dictating what is happening.  They must all be acutely aware of how they collectively are being viewed as a result of recent events and each and every one of them should be ensuring that any bad news that needs to be given to any player or other member of staff is done sensitively and face to face.  The fact that this is clearly not happening and the fact that there is no communication about so many important issues is very worrying indeed.
