I was there and I don't think it was flattering. We definitely deserved to win and in the last 15 mins they looked like a team that would struggle in the 1st division and we capatilised on it.

Well done to all goalscorers especially McAllister on getting his first league goal for the club (I think!).

By the end of the match Barry Wilson looked absolutely knackered after he put in 100% effort throughout. His cross for the second was perfect!!

Here is the report from The Scotsman

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle made short work of their long trip to Motherwell and sent the Fir Park side to the bottom of the SPL.

A chorus of boos wrung around Well's home at full-time as Caley made it five successive wins in the Lanarkshire town through strikes from Ross Tokely, Craig Dargo, Grant Munro, and Rory McAllister as Charlie Christie won the battle of the rookie managers.

On the surface, there are many similarities between Christie and Malpas. Both are in their early forties, and both are relatively new to main coaching roles following long illustrious playing careers with their respective sides. And perhaps more befitting is that the pair took over from predecessors who were both immensely popular and successful.

Yesterday's humiliating home defeat put Malpas under further pressure as he tries to emulate the work of Terry Butcher who moved to Sydney FC in the summer.

It could be argued, though, that Malpas has pulled off a couple of transfer window-beating swoops that may well turn the tide in his side's favour come the end of the season, despite this setback.

In came Calum Elliot on loan from Hearts and former Motherwell hero Keith Lasley on a free transfer following a spell down south for Plymouth.

Both players have undoubted quality and against the face of interest from other SPL rivals, Malpas clearly had something up his sleeve in signing talks.

Perhaps it's the same sort of convincing chat that the visitors from the north have used when battling to hang on to some of their top players.

As the window shut ten days ago, want away defender Darren Dods was still in their side, as was Ian Black despite strong attempts from Dundee United to sign both players.

And it's that sort of continuity that has helped to make Inverness one of the most respected and reliable forces in Scottish football.

Make no mistake, this isn't a side that will be unnerved easily. Their slick movement and their superbly organised lineup posed Motherwell no end of problems.

After Craig Dargo's ninth-minute volley was saved by Graeme Smith, Inverness took command.

Smith soon turned from hero to villain as Inverness conjured up the opening strike from nothing in 23 minutes.

A speculative Wilson cross was poorly dealt with by the Well keeper who only succeeded in punching the ball straight into the path of Ross Tokely. With Smith caught in no-man's land Tokely sent a looping header into the net from 15 yards.

Then, some 13 minutes later, Smith was almost caught out a second time by a Wilson cross as he again elected to punch with the ball stopping at the feet of Craig Dargo.

Dargo, though, was at an acute angle and couldn't squeeze the ball in at the back post much to the relief of Smith.

With that, Motherwell began to up the tempo and forced Mark Brown into making a few stops at the other end with Brian Kerr the chief instigator of all attacks. Kerr's 36th minute free kick was superbly turned over by Brown. Then Kerr turned creative to cross for Calum Elliot to test Brown with a first-time volley.

Well emerged the strongest at the start of the second half and felt they could have had a penalty as Scott McDonald was felled by Tokely in 48 minutes. However referee William Collum awarded the foul he insisted it came outside the box and gave a free kick instead of a penalty.

Kerr's resultant set piece caused confusion in the Inverness ranks but with no-one getting on the end of it Caley pushed forward and created their second goal of the game. Paul Quinn lost the ball in a key area and Wilson nipped in to cut the ball back for Dargo to fire in from close range.

Motherwell, though, did get one back and it was no more than they deserved as Lasley's deep free kick was met by McDonald.

However, late strikes from Grant Munro and sub McAllister - both from Wilson corners - made sure this was another unhappy day for Malpas.

MAN OF THE MATCH

BARRY WILSON: One of the most consistent performers in the SPL. His work rate is second to none but what made him stand out from the rest yesterday was his exceptionally high-quality delivery. Time after time from the right flank his cross balls caused Motherwell problems and inspired an easy Inverness win.

We were solid on Saturday but nothing more. Getting carried away with this result is like getting carried away with the Scotland's 6-0 win over the Faroes. Motherwell defended very, very badly, particularly at set pieces from which three of our goals came. Star men for me were Blackie, Bayne and Barry while the back four looked as comfortable with each other as they did for most of last season. But for Charlie to say that 4 or 5 players put in their best Caley performances is just unbelievable and worries me.

I'd really like to know who they were.

On this evidence, Motherwell are certainties to be relegated and the result is a very good confidence booster going into Saturday's game - Brewster's last in SPL mangement.

Late starts are by no means unusual. The customary explanation from Martin at the BBC, who I think is the same lad who produces Jim Taylor's show, is that they have to check out all the broadcasts before kick off to ensure they are all working..... I mean, like it's the first time they have broadcast the matches.......

E.G.

Hey Jimmie are you there at Fir the Hill ?

Jimmie..."Aye"

Martin  "Hey Jimmie can you hear me"?

Jimmie "aye".

Martin  "O.K. You are O.K. then" How's the missus then Jimmie?

Jimmie.."Fine" How's your bairn Tam after his op?"

Martin  "Fine, Like he still has to go back on Tuesday to see the Specialist about a boil on his knee ; came up after a bee stung him in the loo"

Jimmie.." Aye , that can happen. Not good, eh?"

Martin " Yer richt, Jimmie, but thanks fer askin.Well, anyway, I'm off tae Aberdeen  to check them out . Right then, see you...

Jimmie "Aye , Martin, guid tae hear from you again. See you at the BEEB dance on Friday night..are youse going wi the missus?"

Martin..."Aye. See you then. Guid craic.Don't forget to wear yer kilt , my man, you look a real stotter in the kilt I hiv tae say that"

Jimmie.." Thanks fer that .Take care...." :015:

In fact they must have had a few emails about various issues because they have put a link on the BBC Sportsound site to a FAQ site begging listeners to check out the answers before sending in emails.

We were of course a very happy bunch in the last 20 mins, but, what that tended to cloud, was the memory of the first half which was, in the main, a poor  football match. There was no evidence of the silky passing game which we saw at Tynecastle. In the end we despatched an outfit which looked out of their depth................the least we should be doing.

"You can only beat whats put in front of you" is an oft used phrase. At least we did that . There were several good performances. I thought Black and Rankin were good  (but thought Charlie should have hooked one or both of them earlier as they were both shown the customary yellow in the first 45). A certain right back was caught out a few times again. 'Well should have had a penalty. Wilson was The Scotsmans MOM. I wouldn't go that far..............but he is having a great season so far.............a class apart when he is on his game.

One other thing. We were put in the big stand................all on our own. 7 people vied for my service at the pie stall..........the steak were good................LUXURY............thanks Motherwell.
