Currently Calum is over in Northern Ireland taking part in the Milk Cup for the Canada. The Milk Cup is and i quote " Official Dale Farm Milk Cup - one of the world's best youth football tournaments! Fri 25th July - Fri 1st August". Earlier on this evening Calum and the rest of the Canadian team took too the pitch against Mexico where they won 2-0 with our very own Calum Ferguson getting a goal and the assist for the other goal. With a player like him who seems to be progressing at a really high level and scoring quite a few goals recently not just for us but at international level do we really need another striker???

Although he does seem a prospect, It would be premature to place too high an expectation on the boy.

Playing for Canada U19's is maybe not 'a really high level'. With due resect to Canadian football, we've recently had strikers who've played at the same level, or higher, for more 'established' international teams.

All of them got punted without really making the grade with us.

Toby Agdestein, U21 for Norway; Adam Evans, U19 for Republic of Ireland; Philip Roberts U19 for Republic of Ireland; Curtis Allen, U21 for Northern Ireland.

If another striker not coming in is to be the case I would be more than happy that Ferguson is there for backup. He may not have much experience in the first team but he is a confident player and I feel, just like Polworth and Christie, he would handle the pressure very well. The level of international football he is currently playing does not concern me. He is finding form at the moment and that's what really matters.

A couple points here.  Canada is usually pretty competitive at the youth stages.  It's when we start hitting above U20 that we run into issues.  Football (soccer) in North America is generally dominated by overall athleticism and falls apart as a more technical/tactical approach is needed.  Some of this is due to our lack of full time professional soccer available in Canada. We are still heavily reliant on shipping our talent overseas for "seasoning".  It's difficult for us to improve quickly as our most talented players tend to get drawn in by other nations with better international opportunity.  Hargreaves for ENG aka: the whore, Jonathan De Guzman for NED aka: the traitor, Asmir Begović for BOS (people are so pissed at Asmir they don't even have a name for him) to name a few.  Even now we find ourselves trying to woo players (Junior Holliet at QPR) to commit to the national side.  Inverness has had as much Canadian content as any side in the Scottish game over the last 20 or so years (Hastings, Xausa).

If the Canadian Mens National Team needs anything it's strikers.  Please take care of Calum...we need him in Canada as much as Inverness does.
