Two Austrians ?

Recommended Posts

Clacher, Hastings is getting some well deserved credit for a good second half to last season.

He has by no means been brilliant since he came back.

Many would disagree with you on that point, i certainly would, i think he has been outstanding for us since his return, bar one or two off games which even the best players have.

Anyhoo, back to the topic in question, anyone heard anymore about these Austrian lads?

Named in today's P & J as Dominique Taboga ( doesn't sound terribly teutonic ) a 24 year old central defender and Benidict Baur, a 20 year old cerntre forward.

Neither of them seem to have much, if any, experience of playing in the austrian top division.

Who in our team has been "brilliant" though? Hastings has certainly been extremely consistent and is a very solid and dependable player for us.

says he's a midfielder (Mittelfeld) rather than a striker, and with Dean McDonald not exactly being prolific, I don't see these 2 being a replacement for what we are losing (a 20 goal a season striker) - then again Dargo wasn't prolific when he arrived to us so I'll be happy when these 2 knock in 20 goals each this season.

'30.10.03 A record Nine Stockport County players were called up for International duty today, highlighting the talent now on show at Edgeley Park. Jim Goodwin, Wayne Henderson and Jon Daly all received call-ups to the Ireland Under 21 squad, while defensive duo Joleon Lescott and Rob Clare both join the England Under 21 squad to face the Irish. Andy Welsh and Mika Aaritalo both received Under 21 call-ups to Scotland and Finland respectively whislt Chris walker and Dominque Taboga receive their first Under 21 caps.

Debutants Walker and Taboga have both been impressive in thier reserve team displays, with Taboga pushing hard for a first team place. Taboga's call-up could be due to his new found flexibility, which has seen him operate in the centre of defence as well as in his more accustomed right wing back role. Walker has also settled in well after his early season move from Portadown, with some strong displays for the Matt Le Tissier's Under 19's. We wish them well.'

ArabForNever will recognise a familiar name of a player currently injured.

And some more familiar names:

# 5.9.03 Owen Hargreaves- Season long loan from Bayern Munich. England international Hargreaves is frozen out at Bayern adn available on a loan so we jump at this opportunity. His versatility accross midfield and tenacity will be welcomed.

# 25.8.03 Adam Collin- Season Long loan from Newcastle. Brought in after Tardif injures himself. He returns when Henderson joins.

# 26.7.03 Mika Aaritalo- Free Transfer. Aaritalo was rated as one of the great striking prospects when he joined Villa so we jumped at the prospect of signing him for free when he was released from his contract by Aston Villa. There is a great sense of excitement around the club about the future possibilities for Mika.

# 12.7.03 Kevin Kyle- Free transfer. Released by Sunderland after they were relegatedd, Scottish international Kyle is a target man with a great header. Will hopefully provide options in attack as well as adding depth to the squad.

# 1.7.03 Dominique Taboga- Free Transfer. Arrives from Austrian side DSV Lebeon after he was spotted in a scouting mission. Will start in the reserves where he'll be given time to adapt but hopefully will be challenging for a first team spot in the near future.

Kapfenberger SV made a very poor start last season but then finished 8th!!!

CALEY TRIAL FOR AUSTRIAN DUO

Austrian trialists Dominique Taboga and Benedict Bauer are due to arrive in Scotland later today for a week-long trial with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Taboga, 24, is a centre-back who was with Second Division side SC Kapfenberg last season while striker Bauer, 20, is in the first-team squad at top-flight side Admira Wacker.

Caley Thistle boss Charlie Christie said: "These lads fit into our wage structure and if they show up well then one or both could be invited to our Italian training camp on July 15."

So the real reason for the trial, they're cheap!  :029:
