Sony Walkman MP3 player

Does anyone else own one of these..? I was delighted with mine - purchased last September - and imported and downloaded half my music collection on to it... It's been great up until now, but it has now developed an aversion to importing any new (or old) CDs.

I get error code 00000415 and the message please try again. 1000 attempts of trying again have got me nowhere.

Looking at help forums there are suggestions that Sony Walkmans are no longer supported by, or are compatible with Windows... Yet they are still on sale at Amazon and Tesco.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone using one of these devices...

Thanks Rig...

What model of MP3 is it?  NW-S705F

What version of Sonicstage do you have?  Version 4.1Is it the most up to date version?  Not sure...

What version of Windows are you using?  XP Home 2002

It functioned perfectly well when first installed - I've tried un-installing & re-installing...

Is the device full? Sounds daft I know but could be an issue.

Reading support forums suggests there is a more recent version of SS out - 4.3. Try upgrading to that.

Might be worth raising your problem there? More specialist than an ICT site  :004:

I used SS when I had my Mini Disc and I hated it. Clunky and prone to error. Not a lot of fun!

Don't knock the ICT site - I've had great advice on here on everything from where to find good dog kennels, to where to get a decent fish supper. Although I will admit some of the comments about football can be hard to understand...

Still haven't resolved the issue with my Walkman - Scanning the relevant forums did reveal someone else has the exact same problem, same error code and so on... the fact that no one could solve his problem was some consolation.

Might just end up returning it to Tesco - it is still under guarantee - the fault is more likely to be somewhere within my PC but what do Tesco know..?

Thanks for your help guys.

Hey JB, did you ever get it sorted? I've got one of these contraptions and mine has now developed the same fault. I deleted a load of tracks from it to make room for some new ones but it now refuses to accept new tracks.

Gringo...

Do you get an error code when trying to load new material..?

I spent a day talking to neanderthals on the Sony helpline going through various processes none of which got me anywhere. Sony eventually concluded my computer was at fault.

Rig suggested deleting Sonic Stage 4.1 and downloading the 4.3 version. That didn't solve the problem on my own computer (windows XP) but when I tried downloading it on to my wife's lap-top (Windows Vista) Hey presto - it worked a treat.. Prior to that we had been unable to get it to get it work on her lap-top...

I don't remember seeing an error code. It just said it was unable to transfer the files and didn't give a reason. I've just read the 'atraclife' link on this thread and will try loading the new SonicStage doodah later tomorrow (working the night shift at the mo'). I have a laptop that has Vista on it, the original Sonicstage loaded on it ok but, on reading the thread, it isn't compatible with Vista.
