Surely he wasn't so stupid as to try and tap up a contracted player?... [sarcasm] :clapping03:[/sarcasm]

I have to say the management really do know that they're doing, don't they?...

Butler certainly was a good player.  If we'd got him at Xmas, I suspect we'd have had a very different season.  A commanding centre-back.  Obviously at 35, little more than a stop gap, so perhaps a bit disappointing for the new season but won't rush to judgments on his fitness yet.

Had a quick look at a chester city fans forum, to summarise it looks like Butler (player and assitant manager) sat with Brewster at the weekend watching the game but what they discussed is open to interpretation. Chester fans seem to think Butler and Dinning are having a disruptive influence behind the scenes just now and hence they have been suspended accordingly.

Their fans also seem to think that the players we are more likely interested in could be Linwood, Murphy and Kevin Roberts (a promising youth player i think) rather than Butler and Dinning who are 35 and 33 respectively. IMO its a freshen up our squad is needing, not older experienced players.

I suspect that most transfers of contracted players involve various degrees of tapping prior to a bid being made, with players often being informally sounded out about how they feel about moving to a certain club, through a string of intermediaries, agents, mutual acquaintances etc.

It is very unusual for a club to report a complaint about it though, which suggests we might have been rather direct about it.

John Colquhoun said he'd never heard of a transfer happening where the player wasn't 'tapped up'.  He said, usually the player would get a phone call asking if he would be interested.  He thought it was fair enough as it saved all the bureaucracy involved if the player simply wasn't interested.

"None of the players we watched, judging by their performances on Saturday, would make an impact with Caley Thistle."

Brewster in the Courier.

Wouldn't take a genius to work that out!  It's Chester not Chelsea (reserves)!  He should be looking at premiership reserve games/championship and their reserve games!  Not a relegation fighting league TWO side!

Brewster doesn't have a clue in the transfer market!

Very strange we are being reported for 'allegedly' tapping players we have 'allegedly' no interest in  :017:

You can be fined for illegally approaching contracted players can you not?

Is it actually really a surprise that we may or may not have been "tapping up" these players from Chester City ?

FFS its not that long ago, Brewster and Malky were at it with us in what looked like trying to "tap" players up via the media when they were both down at Dundee United  :023: :014:

we need something from Chester but it ain't players, more like a couple of monkeys from the zoo to manage our club cos they cant do a worse job than these 2 f@nnys.  :029:

We were linked with the Graham Bayne lookalike and the seasoned pro in the Xmas transfer window - when we were desperately seeking a central defender - Butler may have been a good stop gap but shurely not now - Did Brew not make a statement at that time that we were not going ahead with a bid etc. Anyway the player we were originally seeking was Bolland but we were quickly knocked back- as I told you all last December.

What is more worrying is that our management paid Malky to go and watch the Shrewsbury and Wrexham game !!!
