Because stand is short for Grandstand and does not refer to a place to stand, and a terrace is a series of steps ( where one can stand and ones view not be affected by the person in front).

If you had x-ray vision and could see through anything, wouldn't you see through everything and actually see nothing?

What is X ray vision, though? "Vision" remember is what our brain makes of the visible radiation it RECEIVES. If the retina were instead sensitive to X rays, then we would see virtually nothing since (thank goodness) there aren't many X rays in our environment.

Anything relying ion radiation GIVEN OUT (such as x rays) would be totally useless because you wouldn't actually receive anything at all for your brain to process.
