Has anyone here been to Stockholm before?

I'm going there for the weekend in a fortnight, and was wondering whether anyone had any advice, tips on must sees etc etc

Found out that AIK are playing Henrik Larsson's team at home when i'm there, so going to try and get tickets for that one. Maybe wear my Caley strip to give him nightmares!!

Yep - was there a month ago - very nice, picturesque and historical, but very expensive for beer !! (if bought in a pub - although 'technically' there is no such thing as a pub - its a restaurant that sells beer - a quirky Swedish law. Beer is cheaper if bought at the state run off-licenses)

If you are into history, get yourself onto the island of Gamla Stan - its the big one right in the heart of the city. It contains the royal palace, and many other historical buildings as well as narrow cobbled streets and lots of quirky shops. As you are there only for a short time, I would suggest getting onto one of the bus/boat tours - we took the longest one which is about 3.5 hours and it covers all areas which was pretty good (a little expensive though but so is everything in Sweden).

If you havent already bought a guide book, I would suggest getting DK Guide to Stockholm. We found this book to be excellent and also very accurate.

Attached a few pics for you to look at

STK01 = tour boat

STK02 = stockholm cathedral - right next to Royal Palace and although it doesnt look that impressive from outside, it is very impressive inside.

will attach a few more pics in subsequent posts for you.

STK07 = VASA Ship museum - supposed to be good but we didnt have time to go there

STK08 = Fishing right outside the royal palace ... all Swedes have the right to fish for free in Swedens rivers

If Johnboy doesn't mind I think that we should start a FW fanclub..usually beauty is not necessarily closely allied to a brain but in her case Bob's yer uncle and she peaks my interest----oh geez, wouldn't be remarkable, then , if my name was Rod..... :015:

If anyone else should venture a trip to Stockholm why not check out the casino - if only to meet the only (as far as I know...) Swedish member of the supporters' club. I just happen to work there... Just ask for Karin. BTW, nice pics Scotty!  :clapping04:

Loved it. Really enjoyed the Old town especially; excellent views at sun down, and a nice wee irish bar showing the Hibs v. Hearts game.

The AIK Stockholm v. Helsingborgs game was a totally end to end affair! Don't think they have heard of a holding midfielder over there. Some really rash challenges going completely unpunished as well. Ended up as a 2-2 draw, with Helsinborgs equalising in Injury time.

The fans there really know how to sing. One section known as the "Black Army", filled a full end behind one of the goals, and sang all the way through the match. Half Time pies were non existant, so settled on half time popcorn, hotdog and pint of lager  :005:

It was about £5 roughly for a drink, so we had hip flasks to take away that sting. Only went out properly on sat night (celebrating ICT beating the Gers), and that was around the old town, ending up at popular venue/club Debaser. Don't know what they put in the pints, but that hangover was crippling!!
