It strikes me that the club has committed a great deal of money and had pledged to commit even more in our fight to escape relegation.

Firstly, without first significantly reducing the wage bill, we brought in four new players at the start of the transfer window all of whom are likely to be at the higher end of our wage scale. Then we have the funding of Brewster's and Malky's compromise packages whether thats done in a lump sum or by way of instalments. Thereafter we bring in a new management team who's combined salary is likely to be higher than that of their predecessors by quite a margin and finally, we have a pledge to provide funding for yet more new faces who, if they are to be any good, are again likely to be at the top end of our salary structure.

All in all that must be several hundred thousand pounds of expenditure which wasn't in our budget at the begining of the season. I know that the last set of accounts disclosed money in the bank but the club were already running at a large loss and with gate receipts well down on last season and no transfer income this year I suspect any capital we had would have been exhausted by thr end of December.

I can't see that banks wanting to extend the club's overdraft in the current economic climate so I suspect that someone has at least guaranteed the borrowings if not put their hand in their own pocket.

Who could that be I wonder ?

Well the sale of Niculae wasn't included in last years profits etc. But the board know they have to spend because if they had listened to us in the first place, Brewster would have been gone long ago, and not allowed to buy four new players.

The cost of relegation would be far worse then spending a bit more (than estimated for this season) right now. Everyone would rather that we stayed up, then worry about sorting the finances out next year, or hopefully with a good cup run.

I'm not saying that it's wrong to take the financial risk, especially with the new Setanta deal on the horizon, what I am curious about is the source of that funding.

For a start, all those who stopped going along when Brewster was in charge can come along and spend some money at the stadium.

we got rid of a lot of players last year and didn't replace them all.our position now has a lot to do with our lack of activity in the transfer market up till now. basically the poo has hit the fan and now the board are acting

Wilson - off the payroll

Markus Paatelainen - off the payroll

Rory and Guy - off the payroll

Small sums perhaps but will have opened doors for new recruits currently 6 month gambles

Hasn't Rory come back?

Cant we apply for a goverment bailout?

Great thinking, but only Raith Rovers have any chance of getting that kind of support (again).

I heard that Johnboy was so embarrassed by the profits he raked in last year that he donated 25% to the club. Somewhere in the region of ?0.5m.

Close Alex.... My generous donation actually went to the Supporters Trust.

I'm quite sure they'll be spending it very wisely.

Doesnt matter where the money is coming from ..... someone has realised that relegation would cost us far far more than that.

Didn't we get money for marius playing at Euro 08?

That is still being debated at FIFA level - It aint about the money we got it is about the money we should have paid out.

I believe a couple of the players taken in already are on the payroll of someone other than the club.

One surprise sponsor (or not so if ya think about it) and one not so surprising.

Scotty -Yes and No - if we survive it is worth it I suppose. My point has always been that we could have prospered if the warring factions had sorted things out and looked at a control compromise. Robbo was the carrot on the end of a string and as ever the egos won.

I agree it's a massive gamble and if it pays off it will have been worth it especially with the increased Setanta money on the horizon. On the other hand if it fails it's surely going to severely hamper our ability to buy our way out of the first division next season.

They are playing a game behind the scenes - If we go down everything will change in the management sense.
