Barry Wilson - farewell message.

I have been following up Barry Wilson's move from ICT to Queen of the South and in the course of that, Barry has asked me if I would post a message of thanks on this board from himself to the Caley Thistle fans.

The formalities of the move will be signed tomorrow and his contract at Inverness, which was to expire on 19th January, will be terminated on January 1st. Barry will therefore be eligible to make his QoS debut v Morton this Saturday and will also be clear to play in the Cup on January 10th since he is not yet cuptied.

CaleyThistle fans not travelling to Hamilton on January 17th will have a chance to say farewell to him in Dingwall that day when QoS are away to Ross County.

Barry was especially keen that his appreciation should be communicated to the fans, and in particular he mentioned this website where he asked for this post to be made.

"They've said a lot of supportive things about me there and I would like them to know I appreciate that. The Caley Thistle fans have been great to me ever since I went there first in 1996 and I really would like to thaqnk them all for that," he said.

The statistics are - 353 appearances (bettered only by Ross Tokely and Richard Hastings), 83 goals - bettered only by Dennis Wyness). These goals include the last of the previous and the first of the current millennium, the opener at Celtic Park on Feb 8th 2000, a goal in the defeat of St. Johnstone which won the Division 1 title and an especially memorable lob of the keeper in a Scottish Cup tie at Motherwell.

We appreciate the message from Barry and wish him all the best at QOS.

We were delighted to publicise his testimonial events and hope we may have had some small role in adding a few quid to the coffers. Here's hoping he will be back at ICT as part of a new management setup in the near future.

If he cant be playing for ICT under the current regime then I am happy he has chosen QOS as I for one have always had a soft spot for them ever since the days of the Caley Inn where we would have a session with some of their fans, which was reciprocated a few times when we made the journey to Palmerston.

Good luck Barry. Haste Ye Back.

Gave me my greatest thrill at a football game ever on Feb 8th. A club like ICT has just a few legends and Barry will always be in the ICT XI, of that, there is no doubt. Best of luck at QoS I shall be rooting for them from now on. Hope ICT and QoS can meet in the cup so we can see you at ICT again!

I echo the sentiments of the others on this thread. Sure will be hard to replace ya Barry. Thanks for your considerable efforts over the years. A true ICT Legend.

All The Best to you and your family for the future, and maybe we will see you back home some day.

I can only echo these comments. Queens had always taken a place as a 'favourite other side' ever since my school days. (I pained my Subutteo team in Q o S colours). Mrs G and me may well take a trip to Dumfries one Saturday and put on the Barry Wilson scarf. I bet he'd be gob smacked to see it.

All the best Barry and thanks for the memories of your ICT performances. You will be missed.

Favourite Barry memories people?

Must say I loved it when he was moved up front for us and he fairly rattled in the goals for a period in his new position before he went off to Livi. Seemed to be scoring every week.

His audacious goal against Motherwell in the Cup was a screamer and he fired in a beauty against Hibs in a 3 - 0 rowt in Inverness. He might have lost some pace but he was still a very creative outlet for us and one of my favourite ICT players.

All the best Barry :rotflmao:

Jeez, thats a fair journey for training Baz! anyway all the best, might see ya in the Heathmount for a beer sometime.

No problem in his posh new car.

All the best Barry, just sorry we didn't have a Christmas bowling night for you to attend. Sorry to see you leave ICT, but as others have said, we hope to see you back some day.

Take care and I'm sure there will be a few of us through to see you play v County.

xx

think the date is by mutual consent if nothing else ..... Barry is (was) contracted to 19th January but if the contract is terminated he is free to sign up for Queens and play this weekend.

Anyhow, before I drag this further off topic, this thread is to show our appreciation of him, so lets not clog it up with other discussions - there are plenty of other threads where we can do that.
