Aye and then cool off with an ice cold pint at the bargain price of ?5.... read on...

Booze: Reykjavik's nightlife is well documented but you'd be forgiven to think it is a bit of a ghost town early doors. Most revellers seem to avoid some of the high alcohol prices by drinking at home and not venturing out until 11pm! The prices of all products are expensive in Iceland due to the need to import most of them. Expect to pay nearly a fiver for a pint of beer, and spirits fare no better. Despite the high cost of going out, Reykjavik's nightlife seems to resemble a gathering of supermodels as beautiful people in stylish clothes knock back plenty of booze whatever the price! The bars stay open into the early hours, sometimes past 5am at the weekend, and in good weather many folk gather outside after closing time, and continue to party in the streets.

Those wanting a cheaper pint can sample Nelly's Cafe where beer currently costs 290 Krona (?2.60) where most ask nearer 500 Krona a pint. Just over the road is the Sport Kaffi where Icelandic TV's coverage of English Premiership games are shown live on Saturday afternoon (complete with Stoke City score updates!), and is also the place where many Stoke games are watched by Icelandic fans. A signed Stoke City football sits on the top of the bar. Other places worth a visit are Kaffi Thomsen, Gaukur ? St?ng (especially for live music), and Glaumbar (for music). The Reykjavik website has many more listings for bars and clubs.
