Rangers out of Champions League

I see Rangers are out of the Champions league after going down to Malmo tonight. However they remain in Europe with the reward for losing being awarded a place in the Europa League. This is wrong. Having failed miserably yet again, that should be that for the season. Places in other competitions should be awarded to other clubs who are next in line in their national competitions. In that way there will be more clubs involved in Europe and more clubs will be able to hold onto good players because of the attraction of playing in a European competition. This would help to raise standards generally and provide for better competition for the big clubs. Of course, this is money talking again with the demands from the TV companies that the bigger clubs get a 2nd chance so their appearance will make for larger TV audiences.

Ibrox was only half full for the first leg so they got what they deserved.

I agree DD..if you get knocked that should be it, no second chances and I'm not saying because its one of the OF. It is a money thing and is so wrong.

Although I agree with 'you're out means you're out', I don't agree that means another club should take their place. A fail in the SPL to reach Europe should also mean just that. No back doors - what have they done to deserve special status other than fail to win?

I'd actually want the whole Euro competitions revamped completely anyway. No knockout rounds, just Champions competing against Champions. The Cup Winners' Cup would also be resurrected. A cup competition for Europe's cup specialists. Sounds better than the Europa Cup for second-stringers that failed in their league.

Can't understand Ally McCoist though. Two players sent off. Players still not match fit this early in. Yet he doesn't use two of his three subs? Doesn't seem right to me.

Will the SPL start next season at the end of May to give our teams a better chance in europe???

Also I hear there is a new Rangers whisky - Whyte & McCoist - they've already bottled it in Europe!!!

Apparently Rangers latest European humiliation is actually bad news for us, financially. UEFA make payments to the leagues which provide the teams in the group stages of the CL, which then get shared out amongst all the teams in the league.
