We currently have Bradford City centre half Steve Williams on trial, source below

Certainly could do with getting in someone to address our defensive problems at present

Suprised me a bit as i thought replacing Davis was Butchers plan. Mind you centre midfield is an area where we have quite a few players (once injuries clear)

Apparently he's a barber by profession, who got his first fully pro contract with Bradford a couple of years ago. I'm sure IHE will be able to source some info, as he played for Chorley and Charnock Richard in his younger days still only 24 though).

Lots of views, fairly mixed, from Bradford fans here http://bcafc.livewwware.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=68645

The most common comments are:

- "potential"

- got all the physical tools needed to be a good defender

- good ball winner

- lacks concentration, lapses in every game, doesn't have a "safety first" approach to defending

- questionable workrate

The first three sound like just what we need ...... its the last two that worry me greatly, BUT, Terry and Mo do seem to be able - for the most part - to spot potential and the quote below from that message board is perhaps indicative of a player who we could get on the cheap, but who could develop into someone of quality ..... like Jonny Hayes or Adam Rooney ... or in his position, Darren Dods who was a risky signing at the time but turned out to be a great player for our team.

Reminds me of Titus Bramble, has all the attributes to be a really good defender but yet always liable of dropping a huge clanger or switching off at the wrong time.

If it is a permanent switch though I would make sure we have some sort of sell on clause in there as he is one of them players who could easily change into someone worth a few bob.

That description also reminds me of a Toronto player .... Andy Iro. He's a monster of a man. Liverpool born - and therefore physical like a lot of UK players - but went to college in America so suited to MLS, by all accounts a very personable chap off the park, but on it, 6' 5", built like a brick **** house and when he gets it right, it looks good, really good, especially when you see that size of a man go into a perfectly timed crunching tackle. OUCH ! .... but all too often last season he was the cause of defensive lapses and errors because he looked like he didnt know what to do sometimes .....

Tel's found some of his best worst down in the Football League, given that we are in desprate need of a center half lets hope he is one of the best.

He won't be comming! He found it cold(#Baltic) :cold: and full of mountains. Amazing in January!! Also the word that scares off footballers from Inverness, NANDOS. Read the man himself, @12_SWilliams

I live down here and had a season ticket for City for a couple of seasons( Kids are City fans)so have seen a fair bit of Williamsl.Very error prone, he is quick and fairly strong but Butcher would need to iron out an awful lot of wrinkles, his concentration being one of them as he has patches in games where he just switches off completely.Maybe, just maybe its last chance for Willo though and he might switch on and realise he has the potential to go far in football if he actually applies himself and can manage to concentrate for a full 90 minutes ! The key word is potential, he has plenty of that.

Don't think he is much of a loss tbh. Imagine it being cold in January - he should have been up here the last 2 winters as this one is balmy in comparison! Think we need to get a nandos in sneck ASAP as it could maybe help us attract a better class of player LOL

It'll be interesting to see in what way Williams will come into the team. I think it's fair to assume that if Tokely is available, then he will play. But what of Golobart? Will he be relegated to the bench? Could there be a switch to a back three system? Will WIlliams come straight in? I wonder as well, if he will, with Golobart getting a chance up-front, the other position he can play.

That is how my brother in law described Golobart. The problem, which is probably worse than Golobart, is that this guy has to get SPL match fit, attempt to blend i with a rickety defence and play against players of a higher standard. Now if we still had the reserve league then he would have been bloodied in there but training and bounce games are nowhere near effective.

I hope that TB doesnt follow what he has done before and throws him in to the deep end - but there again how do we get something out of a rookie who is only here for six months without playing him regularly. I am concerned that this may be a wrog move.

I have asked some of the locals about him - played more for Bamber Bridge - he was a semi professional although they say he had pace and was good in the air - they actually all said that they thought that he would make a better striker - perhaps TB has spotted that.
