I see its 40 years since the Ford Capri was launched in the UK, did you ever drive one was it a classic or a shed?

I had 3 when I was younger.

My very first car was a N reg 1.6L

My second was a T reg 2.0GL

My last and favorite was a 2.0S

Loved them at the time!!

Ahhh, I sold a 3.0 Laser last year what a car!! white with a vinal roof!! what a car, RWD, old school slinky car, I loved it, I left her for 2 weeks a while ago and It run out of fuel by itself, so off i went to get a can of fuel, 5ltrs later i got in started and drove about 300 meters and cough splutter out again!! Took it to the garage to check to see if it had a leak, nothing at all! the diagnosis was.. shes just a thirsty brute!! I had a 1.8T 20v golf at the time too so I had a massive Carbon footprint!! ?300 a month in fuel, they both had to go!! I miss them both, the Capri had a smell that just smelt like a capri... old classic ford smell, the only thing Id pick it up on was the pedels, after a while i got used to it but they seemed to be angled for high heels, my legs killed after abit!! but retro! how much more Retro can you get!! i loved it!

P.S im on the market for an old school car again... any old fords/Vauxhall with MOT and tax Gez a shout!

First Capri was a 1.6L basic as feck,me and a mate at Alness went halfies on it (?25 each) to go to Knebworth for Deep Purple concert, goad knows how it made it all the way there and back with a mega carry oot in the boot, lasted several months afterwards as well till dying in a plume of smoke on the back roads to Findhorn. Later on,i bought a beutiful Silver 2.0 litre Ghia complete with sun roof AND cassette player that was my pride and joy till some chunt spilt a pint of milk in the back and it always stunk on hot days after that :clapping03:

Capri's ! eh loved them, all us young lads thought we were Archie in a Capri and so mush sauver and cooler than them rough Escort types

I was in the market for a new car and went to my local, at that time, Ford dealers in Linlithgow to purchase same.

I bought a smart, box shaped, silver metallic Cortina, ready for the road at midnight, New Year and therefore delivered to my door on trade plates.

The call of home overtook me at 10 pm and off we went, defying the law, up the A9 and took in the New Year, stopped in a lay by at Dalwhinnie and included my new car in the toast.

I was proud to show off this new purchase in the wee sma hours of the morning but my bubble was well and truly burst when I arose to face the new day and watched on the news, the unveiling of..........THE NEW CAPRI!!

I still have not got over that feeling of what might have been. Mixed emotions, hurt at the salespeople not giving me a wink or a nod, hurt as my colleagues as they all bought one, hurt that I was only in love with my new car for a day but..I think there was an initial problem with the Capri gears.

I remember two of us in our respective new/old Cortinas racing against George Duffus, the entertainer, along the A8 and George who was ones of the colleagues that had bought a Capri, was leading the way when we turned into the entrance to Bathgate. We were all nose to tail and George went round the right angled entrance and just kept going right, did not straighten up, ending up a steep grass bank, with the beautiful Capri on show for all the surrounding motorists to admire as they drove by - not the best advert!

Nobody hurt, just George's pride and the exhaust of his car. I took a wee bit satisfaction that my old model stayed on the road and this new Capri did not. Very small satisfaction, just a little....yes!!

Speaking of cars, have you heard about the new joint venture Renault and Ford are working on?

They are producing a new small car based on the Renault Clio and Ford Taurus. It will be called the 'Clitaurus'.

It comes with a pink interior and fur on the bumpers, except in Brazil where the fur option is very limited.

The new car will be marketed as a woman's car, as most men will be unable to find it, especially in the dark.

I remember when I was about ten my mother got a Capri ( 1962/63) and we went to St. Andrews on holiday - all the Dundonians we met thought we were American because of the car, they also thought we spoke funnny and thought it odd that we did not qualify everything we said with a " yi ken".

Great car - loved it.

Now dont quote me on this...but....am sure my bros mate, back in the 80s, had a 3.1 RS Capri (am sure it was) It was a cool car and the envy of many a young loon in the town.

It was Bodie and Doyle that really made the Capri cool if you ask me (and the RS2000 too)

Bloke along the road from me had an RS3100 which had been tuned to the limit and went like stink. He used to buy part worn tyres from the place in Evanton purely for doing burn outs.....gave us hours of entertainment.

First car was a Cortina 1600E which I wrote off outside Spean Bridge. Then a Mk1 Capri 2000GT. Black with loads of chrome. Spent more time polishing it than driving it. Next was Mk2 1.6 Ghia. Blew the engine so shoehorned in a 2ltr S engine and 5 speed box. Loved that one. Signal Orange with black vynil roof. Cost me a fortune to keep it roadworthy though. Family came along and had to change. Since then I've had a Nissan Sunny, a GT Meastro, a Mk4 Cortina, Nissan Primera, Proton, 2 x Laguna's and a Focus. Also Honda 400 Four. Suzuki GS550E, GS1000, Kawa Z1 900 Yamaha FZ750 and Yamaha Thundercat. Of all those vehicles the orange Capri has to be the one that holds the best memories.

Much preferred the Manta myself. But that was probably because I drove a Mark 1 Astra...

Friend had one of the last Cortina's a red "Y" reg Crusader, now that was a lovely car.., remember how shocked we were by the Cortina replacement (the Sierra), it really looked so odd on the eye at first.

I'm currently thinking about getting myself an old run around, and this thread isn't doing much to encourage me to keep it sensible!!!

What's the fun in keeping it sensible,

I remember when I was in Romania the family chipped in to get my old Mam a runaround, I sent my share across and was duly informed her and my sister had gone out and bought a lovely little Fiesta, I came home about a month later and found they had bought an XR2 fully boy racered up. Once I stopped laughing I told my poor Mam who was so mortified that she would never drive it again, we then traded it in for something more sensible but I have a sneaking feeling my Mam always preferred the XR2
