When Will We Get Our Own Identity?

I know the club is still young and it is only a few short years since we were two clubs who were staunch rivals of each other but when do you think our club will have enough of our own history for our fans to claim our own identity? Do we still hang on to old allegiances from the "big" teams we used to support?

One of our more popular chants "Care/Stand Free" is a chant which Aberdeen made their own many years before the merger, we have seen sectarianism creep into the stands with the "Bobby Sands" song and BJK banner earlier in the season and now I have noticed a signature on these forums referring to "Bloody Sunday", I understand that the user is trying to play on Butcher's blood soaked bandage but to many of the older users on this site Bloody Sunday will mean something a lot more sinister.

Can we not find our own identity instead of latching on to other clubs chants and political affiliations?

In terms of songs we prob have enough to claim our own but we just dont sing them! I always thought that ICT should try and promote themselfs as a Highlands club and try to draw support from the whole of the Highlands as the only Highland Premier league team and maybe even try to promote the club at Highland games events in USA, Canada etc. They do play Highland Cathedral before the teams come out but its so quiet you can hardely hear it, turn it up a notch. There is a highland flag that we could start taking which is predominately blue as well, or Jacobite flags etc

I am liking the idea of the Highland flag but Jacobite flags? Not all Highlanders fought on the side of the Jacobites, besides does that not put us on one side of the Catholic/Protestant argument?

The Highland flag. Maybe even worth considering this colour scheme when we change our home shirt?

Aye i think Birdog has a point we really dont seem to have our own real identity. I mean we are at a disadvantage being by far and away the youngest club in Scotland but still we should find our equivalent of Norwich's On The Ball City, West Ham's I'm forever blowing bubbles etc.

Itl help get our team some spirit together, something our fans are lacking at the moment. Its not like were based in a small city, and as was earlier said we are the only highland team in the Prem. We could draw on something like that. As fans we need to start singing otherwise we will gain a reputation of being very, very quiet.

How many clubs have original songs? Beyond the OF, I'm struggling.

Hearts, Hearts glorious Hearts

Sunshine on Leith

The Northern Lights

Tangarine Machine

Sure there's loads more if I googled.

no offence but what a lot of guff!!!!

we have our own identity and we are respected throughout Scotland.

loads of central belt fans love us because of our passion and because we are a breath of fresh air compared to the perception they have our bitter miserable north east neighbours.

we are the special ones! we are proud highlanders! we are caley jags until we die!

be proud of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When will we get our own identity? When people no longer feel the need to ask the question you've just asked.

Many Highlanders fought on the side of the government.

Many Catholics fought on the side of William of Orange.

Best we keep politics, regardless of age, away from matches.

When that stage is reached people will also no longer feel the need to give nonsensical answers such as this one.

On the Highland Flag theme - there is alreday an off the shelf red and blue version available that doesn't look anything like an union jack.... :thumb04:

Bit of a northern viking feel to it....? :rotflmao:

cheap-calling-to-norway-flag.jpg

Given the Norwegian influence in our part of the country it's not a bad idea but I can't see it taking off, mostly because the Scandanavian influence in this area has been all but wiped out by the parasitic Gaels, with the exception of the Northern Isles.

There must be a lot of songs about the Highlands that we could start playing over the tannoy or sing

If only the old Jeggies could get used to the song "Caledonia" IMO it is the perfect anthem.

the BJK banner is just not acceptable in any ground, if the person who took it to a game is on this site maybe you can answer these questions

1 how do you know what Jock Stein did or did not know

2 who helped the injured at the ibrox disaster?

3 who helped to carry the poor dead souls from the ground on the same day?

4 who died at the t4rack side managing SCOTLAND?

keep the banner away from our games and don't bring the decent supporters down to your gutter level

in respect of the Bobby Sands songs i think these idiots should stay away from our games and not drag a good club into the political gutter, i doubt if any of them know what they're even singing about

I don't know if you can see

The changes that have come over me

In these last few days I've been afraid

That I might drift away

So I've been telling old stories, singing songs

That make me think about where I came from

And that's the reason why I seem

So far away today

Oh, but let me tell you that I love you

That I think about you all the time

Caledonia CaleyJags you're calling me

And now I'm going home

If I should become a stranger

You know that it would make me more than sad

CaleyJags been everything

I've ever had

Now I have moved and I've kept on moving

Proved the points that I needed proving

Lost the friends that I needed losing

Found others on the way

I have kissed the ladies and left them crying

Stolen dreams, yes there's no denying

I have travelled hard with coattails flying

Somewhere in the wind

(Chorus)

Now I'm sitting here before the fire

The empty room, the forest choir

The flames that could not get any higher

They've withered now they've gone

But I'm steady thinking my way is clear

And I know what I will do tomorrow

When the hands are shaken and the kisses flow

Then I will disappear

Copied and pasted the whole song but I reckon the highlighted verses would be enough. We need an anthem.

To be honest this discussion was dealt with at the time, I only brought it up to highlight the fact supporters of our club need their own identity to distance themselves from this pish, I believe the guys involved acted through ignorance and the want to create an atmosphere, sadly they got it wrong.
