I realise that in these sad circumstances, this may not be the place to start an argument, but that remark, no doubt made by someone who knows absolutely nothing about the circumstances, is stupid in the extreme.

I'm sure that's right. It sounds that they made every reasonable effort to rescue him and he was only abandoned when it became clear that any further effort was futile and would imperil the rest of the group. Those who engage in extreme altitude mountaineering appreciate the riks and the brutal consequences of such an unfortunate happening.

Agreed and an obituary in the matchday programme would be nice. How many fans really follow their dreams? I admire the man for his drive and commitment.

May his family find some comfort that he died doing what he loved.
