Time to drop Fraser

Your talking a lot of bullocks and bollocks on this thread. :003:

I'd stick with Ike for now.

As for Tony Bullock, he'dve been the bollocks as cover rite enuff. I reckon he's one of the better keepers in Scotland, but the least said the better about Bullocks bollocks .

Out of interest, when was it Calder last played for ICT ? I reckon he'd put a good hundred on the gate if he was to stand in.

and.....talking of keepers and gates, d'ya reckon Malkowski would attract many of the snecks Poles if he was playing ?

Having just seen the goals I am perplexed as to why Fraser is being criticised

Are you joking???

I'm not - as some suggest - scapegoating Fraser for our recent turmoil. Our defending in general has been mince, and as Brewster says defending starts with the strikers. But a balance has to be struck between collective and individual responsibility.

Donnati shouldn't have gotten the chance to shoot - Tokely sold himself completely - but he shouldn't have been able to pass the ball low into the net from an actute angle - the goalie has to do better - surely? He didn't even touch the ball.

Venegoors second goal also should have been saved. A very predictable, completely undisguised downward header from an acute angle  - Fraser ended up actually diving AWAY from the ball. If he'd just stayed on his feet it'd have been a simple catch.

McGuired was obvioulsy to blame for the fifth, but Frasers positioning was all wrong. He was almost standing beyond his front post when the cross was played - how is he going to save ANY effort on goal from that position? He isn't.

This isn't just a one off, Fraser has conceded other soft goals this season, Dundee Utd was another shocker.

I'm not arguing that we should punt him - just that his performances have been very poor, certainly not good enough for the SPL, and nobody should be guaranteed a first team spot regardless of how they play. I don't know much about Malkowski - but you can't write him off just because of one error against us a couple of seasons ago, as some seem to have done. Brewster has obviously seen something in him otherwise he wouldn't have brought him here.

Surely he deserves a chance to show what he can do. Plus a spell on the sidelines; having to work to earn his place back - might do Fraser some good. He basically had the jersey handed to him when Brown left and the only competition he's faced is from a guy who was playing for Clach a few months ago. He hasn't exactly grasped the chance with both hands (no pun intended) Brewster should lay down a mark with this one.

If Fraser is as good as his fans on this forum think he is, he should be good enough to fight his way back into the team.

Personally I think that we should have gone fer an experienced keeper in January - but we didnt and we stuck with Fraser. He does remind me so much of Brown -in the positive and negative sense. It would be nigh on ridiculous to drop Fraser after keeping the faith fer so long. The position that we are in places pressure on everyone and the goalkeeper more than most. The only way that they could axe Fraser is if he had a howler. Now if we had a more reliable reserve / replacement that decision may be easier to make. I am afraid that the next two games are a crossroads fer a few individual but Mike is under the mircoscope more than most.

Cometh the hour?

We will just ignore the deflection from McGuire then?

I think Fraser is a great keeper and has a really good future in the game.  Criticism about him not coming off his line seems a common theme. This was never the case before, he was more of a Jimmy Calder type goalie who gave us some heart stopping moments outside the box.  We now have a full time goal keeping coach, is he the one dishing out these instructions.  Can anyone here say that Ikey has improved under his reign?  Mark Brown was a fantastic mentor for Mike and I think he has suffered since Mark left.  Still think he has the natural ability though and will continue to serve us well.

Goalies coming off their lines!  Who saw young McNulty on Sunday at Forres - come off his line!!!!! gave everyone heart failure a few times - the comments were that he was basing his game on Jim Calder, and McNulty has the same goal keeping coach as Mike Fraser.

Incidentally Jim Calder was in the Stand on Sunday, looking VERY sun-tanned but can we read anything into the way he had his arm round the back of Doc?!

Don't think replacing Fraser is the answer. Dundee United  have only conceded two goals in their six  SPL games.

They certainly won a watch when they signed Dods.

Agreed.  In difficult conditions, with the wind swirling, Mike seemed quite confident and had a good game all round.

Come on, Mikey, our No 1 goalie!

Mikey did have a good game and I am sure it's all a matter of confidence and we should see an on going improvement from now on.
