Man City exile needs new team

Hi,

My family and I are moving to Tomintoul at the end of October, and I am giving up my Manchester City season ticket, which I have had since I was 15 (I am now 32).

Obviously I now need a new team to watch, and to (eventually) subject my 20 month old boy to! I am adamant that he will not grow up supporting any of the Old Firm (as I hate it when non-Mancs support the Scum, sorry, Man Utd), and I can't let him support Aberdeen because of the Alex Ferguson connection.

So Caley Thistle it is then.

My question is - are there any supporters groups to get involved with, or is there a good starting point for getting to know the club?

As I said, we're moving up at the end of October, so any advice opr help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Rich Ellor

As mentioned already, this website is a great place to start. It's the only ICT fans website of any significance, and a significant proportion of our fanbase are registered.

After spending some time here you'll feel as if you know the club's players, directors, support staff, fans, tactics, history, legends, highs and lows. Hopefully it won't put you off!

OK, thanks.

This website is clearly the mecca of all things Caley then, into the favourites it goes.

I know what you mean about newcomers not getting involved with their new local team - but I think proper footy fans will always adopt the local team and make a bit more of an effort. Not like these 'plastics' who will toss a coin between Rangers and Celtic, buy the shirts for their kids etc, without ever intending to going to one game, ever.

At the end of the day, you should support your local team no matter what. My old man was born 4 miles from Maine Road, that's why our family are all City fans. I really bugs me when people support a team that they have no affiliation with whatsoever, other than that team being succesful. It is winding me up now just thinking about all the tossers in Man Utd shirts all over the UK, it must be the same for you guys up there when you see Old Firm shirts in Inverness.

My little lad Charlie will be dragged along too when he is a bit bigger. Very important to brainwash them young, I feel.

I'll get my head round the fixtures for November in a few weeks time and will post again once we have actually moved up North, to see if anyone can advise me re: pre-match pub / which part of the ground to sit in / supporters groups etc.

Cheers

Rich

And that, as they say, is scottish fitbaw in a nutshell.

I hope MCFCexile, who is used to one of the finest stadia in the country, doesnt take one look at our dump and run off back the A9.

Ach well, thers no place like hame.

Welcome aboard the HMS Sneck.

We're quite a friendly bunch so don't be afraid to dive in and get chatting, both on here and in the pub/at games.

Pre-Match Pub is the Innes for the "Internutters".  Just ask for TheMann4TheJob when you get there and he'll buy you a welcome drink.  :022:

I used to stand on the crumbling Kippax at Maine Road where the half time entertainment was either pulling up the weeds, or avoiding the stream of p*ss that flowed down the terraces

I think I'll settle in OK!!

CaleyD

Thanks for the pre match advice - this is exactly the info I need. I'll make a note of that boozer.

Welcome to the ICT family Rich. Are you a snowplough driver? Tomintoul can be wild in the winter!!

My adopted team in England is actually Newcastle, but I have always had a soft spot for Man City for some reason. I beleive they are A EPL team and belong there. It will probably be a culture shock for you going to our games. We dont have a big support either. But considering we are only 13 years old, got where we are with NO money, we are well worth a look. Also, probably best of all, we are generally laid back people as there is never any real expectation for sucsess. Being bottom of the league is a bit **** tho :016:

I think if it's your first season he buys you a drink every week.

Aaah - the Kippax - such fond memories. Watching the Everton Blues wipe the floor with the Sky Blues and the journey home through the palatial streets of Moss Side.  :001: And ya can sing Blue Moon to me in the winter when I show you ma feckin tattoo. And I reckon that you will feel at home straight away as we have our very own Peter Swailes, our very own Sven Goran and our very own Bernardo Corradi.  :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

IMMORTAL HOWDEN ENDER - I assume you refer to a 5-2 end of season whooping where our keeper was so bad he got subbed at half time. I have also suffered a police escort from Lime Street to Goodison through the delightful streets of merseyside  :029:

Not looking fwd to seeing Caley's version of Corradi, who is the ICT version of the Italian 'hitman' then?

I need to get used to which players to heckle  :020:

Ronaldo - now you're talkin' - it's a good reason to move there eh?

SMEE - thanks for that. When MCFC are away I also watch Altrincham FC in the Conference who get crowds of 900 and always get relegated (then get re-instated each year because someone else goes bust) so I am used to low expectations.

But I would rather go to 15 games a year watching my local team do the best they can with the resources available, rather than spend my cash on Sky to watch a team 200 miles away. Also in my experience, the actual 90 mins of footy is pretty much a sideshow to the buzz of the matchday banter, the feeling you get when you wake up and remember you're at home, all that stuff..... and then of course not speaking to the Mrs all Saturday night because you're still brooding over that georgian left back who scored an oggy with 6 minutes left.

I just can't wait, bring it on........

Lets just say - keep watching and I will fill ya in over a pint.  :023:

Oh and here are a few wee songs to start practising:

If I die in the Kippax Street, woah-oh woah-oh,

If I die in the Kippax Street, woah-oh woah-oh,

If I die in the Kippax Street, there'll be ten red bestards at my feet,

Woah-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh

Use your head and use your feet, woah-oh woah-oh,

Use your head and use your feet, woah-oh woah-oh,

Use your head and use your feet, ten red bestards at my feet,

Woah-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh.

Just replace with Innes Street and the red fer County.  :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

The wheels on yer house go round and round.

Ive supported the Caley fer manys a year

And I spent all my money on whisky and beer

But this year Im rejoicing like the three years before

Cos we never will play the Ross County no more.  AND its no nay never...

And then ya can think up a version for yer best ditty:

Singing aye-aye-yippee

Sun Jihai

Singing aye-aye-yippee

Sun Jihai

Singing aye-aye-yippee

His dad's got a chippy

Aye-aye-yippee Sun Jihai  :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

This is all good humoured banter ya know.  :021:

Welcome Mr newcomer. You seem chatty enough . Good!

Be nonchalant, smiling, nice to Moderators and IHE (when he is a good boy  :002:) , be prepared to be seduced  by ICT and all things blue even without your really noticing it until it is too late, get controversial over a period but not too quickly, look out for and be respectful to Pimples  and other older personages such as Jock Watt in Australia....

and you'll do fine.

Oh, and before I forget, read the ICT history assiduously --get's you up-to-date an' all... :004:

Did I do well Jock?  :016:
