Gary Warren has spurned offers from a number of English clubs to sign for Scottish Premier League club Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Newport County skipper, who also played for Mangotsfield United and Team Bath, was a key part of the Exiles' squad who reached the FA Carlsberg Trophy final at Wembley, where they lost to York City.

However, the lure of playing top-flight football under the management of legendary England centre half Terry Butcher at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium has taken him to the Highlands.

Newport director of football Tim Harris said that the move north of the border was too good for Warren to turn down.

"While we are disappointed for ourselves we are over the moon for Gary," Harris said.

“This is a huge move for him, to play in the top tier of Scottish football, and we feel proud of him after he's been such a colossal player for us over the years."

“The standard must be very poor in scotland if Gary can get a move there , even though its only Inverness . They'll be relegation favourites for sure .”

Hhhhmmmmm!!

There's a lot more positive comments that suggest that particular posters view on Warren is in the minority.

Gary the Great will be fabulous once he gets his feet under the table .

Once he realises that footie is footie and he can cut it at the level we are in at the moment (not just Caley thistle but all teams in the SPL) he will have a rush of blood to the head , will start to brim with confidence, will not score many goals but will do a real good turn in the part in front of goal and will succcccceeeeddd masterfully.

Then he will get complacent , will concede a few , will get a right good bo-likking frae Terry theTerror , will smarten up and will do a good turn.........

and will be here for years, growing in reputation umntil his 16th year at the helm when Terry the Terror will............................go on--complete the sentence.

Seems to be a lot of confusion over his age. The South Wales Argus article linked by Murchison says he is 25 yet i have seen his age being mentioned as 27 or 28. Anyone know how old he is?

The South Wales Argus article linked by Murchison says he is 25

And yet in an article exactly 2 years ago, the same paper said he was 24! Most sources say he will be 28 in August.

The article from 2 years ago was about him having Gilmore's Groin. :furtive:

Gary was part time until last season because he was training to be a school teacher. However, Newport County decided to go full time last season and Gary became full time with us. He also captained the Great Britain's Student Team that competed in the Student Games in Japan last year.
