Time to drop Fraser

My doubts about Frasers ability have been around and aired since he took over from Mark Brown....long before this season started!

OK. Clear. So you don't like our keeper!

Just so we're clear...is the 'ability' of the remainder of the squad up to your standard?

Crivvens!  :024:

At no point did i say I disliked him....I merely question his ability at this level. And while we are at it......apart from Macallister, Macaffrey, and Rankin, Yeah....I would say the rest are up to the job!

Zibi's there to provide competition i.e. a competent replacement to keep the #1 on his toes. If Brew reckons he can fill the gloves - which, one would assume, is why he signed the fella - then maybe a word or two to Mike about better communication with the defence and commanding his area wouldn't go amiss, with the suggestion that he might be reflecting on matters from the bench if he doesn't shape up. I'd hope that word has already been had.

Mark Brown, who folk tout as a wonderful mentor for Fraser, was every bit as guilty as Mike of failing to command his box and of relying on a centre half to do the shouting for him; Dods hid that failing as soon as he recognised it; if Brown was the mentor then you can trace the fault back to him, and the keeping coach needs to rectify it sharpish.

Whilst I accept Brews point that a keepers mistake is always spotted and indeed can be fatal, they should be given a chance, having viewed the goals over and over again, in my opinion, they are all the keepers fault and blatant faults at that!

Where was the defence? Who cares!  It is the job of the keeper to save the goals when the ball comes into his domain and he did not do this!  End of!

Should he be replaced? Of course. He can expect no more. He must accept that his lack of goal-keeping skill lost the team two points. If he was a forward who has lost his way and was 'rested' who would complain? He is human and may need his confidence restored and that will not come under the spotlight in the first team- the reserves for a couple of games could produce a more confident player with his mind on the job! It would also allow us and Brew, to see what we have in reserve and that is no bad thing as all we seem to hear is what happened to him in the old days. A run out will allow us to pass judgement on his keeping ability NOW and he may, with his experience, give the defence more confidence than a keeper under stress.

Just look back my previous postings and you will see I am a Mark fan and I feel the above will give us a better keeper in time.

Just remind me, how many own goals and penalties have we conceded this season? Don't remember many calling for the culprits of those to be dropped. By the way I'm not saying that he's not to blame for goals, just playing devils advocate and saying that as much as a goalie can inspire confidence in a defence, this works both ways! The defence seem to have made far more mistakes this season without Dods there and have also made many more mistakes than Fraser.

Now I've seen the mistakes it's even worse than I first thought.

Fraser was 100% responsible for both goals. How many times will Colin Nish score with a header from OUTSIDE the box, that bounces twice before it even reaches the line???

Why do some people attribute everything to 'confidence'? MF has been a full-time footballer for years, he has a full-time personal coach, but he still lacks basic skills (handling technique, positioning, accurate distribution, judging crosses and long balls). I haven't seen any improvement in his game since he was handed the gloves.

Either he isn't working hard enough or he isn't good enough.

tough one this.

mike spent something like 140 odd games on the bench under broonie with out ever really being given a chance even when we were safe at the end of a season so he was pretty much dropped in the deep end in january when broonie went off to collect splinters. so it has undoubtedly been a steep learning curve for him.

Granted some keepers come in grasp the situation with both hands and make a name for themselves just look at falkirk last year and schmeichal.

thing is though ok so maybe we drop mike and zibi comes in and plays a blinder, do we keep mike out and carry on with zibi? potentially if zibi is as good as some reckon mike good be on the bench again till zibi's loan ends at which point mike will be near as damit back to square one. i know it sems like we are shipping goals in at the back but what the guys need is more support ad backing, with that the confidence will come. we are working our way up the table and i think mike has shown that he deserves his chance, yes he made some mistakes but lets give him a chance to make good

It's questionable that dropping him will shatter his confidence. Using that logic would result in  no-one would being  dropped.

Then we could get into disagreements about whom we should , or should not, drop on the basis of how much we liked the person.

In life if you don't perform you are fired or demoted and if you are lucky you get another chance. Usually you have to leave that employment and get a grip and do better elsewhere and maybe be very successful.

In short, getting dropped is not the end of the world. He can prove himself again. Bruce had seven spider failures allegedly before he succeeded .So what it boils down to may be whether M. Fraser has the character to come back from a dropping , whether it be a rain one or a Chinese Kentucky Flied Chickel one? :002:

If the argument is that if he is dropped we have nobody better to cover then that is a different ball-game altogether. And that is the responsibility of the Management to decide on that one.

:012:

Hope I am not dropping the ball here ? :rolleyes02:
