Brewster's record at DU

Cheers

So, his record was played 28, won 2 !!

Can anyone remind me why this guy ever got another job in management ?

Anybody else with that record would have to drop down a few divisions or more probably would never manage again. Yet he got to manage an SPL club, one that he left in the lurch for that matter.

did well for ict first time round no reason to doubt he wont do well the 2nd time that's a bit like saying Craig Levin shouldn't be manager at utd as he got bullet from Leicester did he not and mark macgee didn't wolves give him the chop too

Brewster did well for us first time round as he was still playing and scoring goals. He didn't play at United and his managerial record was abysmal. He is now no longer playing for ICT and is reliant solely on his "skills" as a manager.

Brewster (at DU) -       played - 28,  won - 2,   drawn - 11, lost - 15.          Points per game 0.6

Levien (at Leicester) - played - 72,  won - 20,  drawn - 26, lost - 26.         Points per game 1.2

Brew was a great player for us - IMHO the best we had at the time. Unfortunately he will never play again and I have never believed him to be a great manager.

Brewster's record at Dundee United is completely irrelevant.

Of course it's relevant.  The record he has at DUFC shows how well he can manage a team under different circumstances.  What it also shows is whether or not the poor results are down to his tactics or simply that the players he has just aren't good enough.  From what I've seen most the players he had at DUFC were probably on a par with those at ICT which shows that the problems are cause by his useless tactics.  It happened to DUFC and now it's happening to ICT. It's down to his tactics and this can be seen at his record at DUFC.  Get him out now I say before he makes ICT look so bad that his spell at Dundee United will look like it is something to be proud of.

Completely irrelevant??

Of course it is relevant - we are talking about his managment credentials. You could say that his playing career is now irrelevant, but not his management career !!

If you judge an ICT manager by their record elsewhere, then is Steve Paterson a terrible manager?

Not when he was with us - He had a great record in the highland league, we took him and he had a great record with us. Unfortunately for him he went downhill ever since then.

In a way you are backing up what I was originally saying - Pele was terrible at Aberdeen, consequently he had to go back down to the Highland league to get a job. Whereas Brew had a worse record with DU yet still got a job in the SPL - a VERY lucky guy IMHO !!

BTW, Pele's record with Aberdeen was much better than Brew's at DU - (Pele - 1.14 points per game), (Brew - 0.6 points per game) , so almost twice as good.

Also Pele had a long history of success behind him in management but his legendary drinking definitely put other bigger clubs off

Brewsters record with Caley, both spells:

Played 80

Won 29

Lost 30

Drawn 21

A win percentage of 36.25

Our only other manager who managed us solely in the SPL is Charlie who had a winning percentage of 37.11, pretty much the same.

A few other SPL managers win % in the SPL:

John Collins at Hibs - 42.5%

Craig Levein at Dundee Utd - 42.4%

John Hughes at Falkirk - 32.07%

Gus McPherson at St Mirren - 22.72%

None of this really matters.

In Brew's own words, league position doesn't lie.

We may well finish second bottom, by dint of Gretna staying in business and being docked ten points.

There is still a side there - though Marius really should be away in the summer - which can hold its own in the SPL, as long as there's a manager who can decide how to play and carry the dressing room (which includes attracting players rather than driving them off).
