not a way in **** you would ever be able to buy beer at a Scottish football match. Shame of course. Standing though, theres a bigger chance of that :022:

has alcohol always been banned from Scottish football?

Nah.. i remember going to a Scotland match at Hampden in the late 70's guys were carrrying big bags of tennants lager through the turnstiles.

Dont think it was long after that when drink was banned, some of the older guys might remember exactly when.

Richard, your patter's rotten.

I think it was after the time the OF invaded the pitch and had a punch-up at the 1980 cup final.

Mind you I was at a game in Luzern a few years ago and every time something happened on the pitch you got drenched in lager (from plastic tumblers)- just like the Barrowlands it was.

In Scotland people just drank from cans so you never got beer over you, but then they pished in the empty can and either rolled it down the terracing (if you were lucky) or flung it over your head on to the pitch if there was a flare up. At Kingsmills I think it was babycham they chucked.

Think it was the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act of 1980 that brought this ban (and a few other things) into law. Think the act has been added to or superseded over time but that was the original name I believe ...... no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.

When i went to AIK Stockholm v. Helsingbourgs they had 2% lager on sale and from what i remember the type of lager was the sponser of the team.

First time i had ever been to a football match with a beer in hand  :021:

Alex, if you're going to go all the way to Denmark to attend a game, the least you can do is watch it.  :003:

Yep, it was the post match riot after the Scottish Cup Final in 1980 that called time on drink at the football.  Can't see it returning.

The teams are just coming out for the second half in that pic. And all six of us ICT fans watched every minute of that match.........through the bottom of our beer mugs :005:
