The January Transfer Window

There's been a lot of discussion on various threads about the sort of player(s) the club should be trying to recruit during the January transfer window to get us out of our current difficulties.

However it's no secret that ICT are not exactly awash with cash at the moment having sustained a significant loss in the last financial year, with gate income substantially down on last season, our CIS Cup run, such as it was, at an end and some doubt about how much, if any, of Marius Niculae's transfer fee will eventually end up in the club's coffers.

Realistically, we might well have to move one or more players on before anyone comes in. If that's the case, who out of our current squad could we afford to part with ?

Personally, I would nominate Djebi-Zadi, McAllister and very sadly indeed, Roy McBain who, for whatever reason, seems well below his best this season.

Taking into account Markus Paatelainen whos salary is already being saved that would be four salaries available which might enable us to bring in two quality players, one in defence and one up front, with little or no net expense.

Based on what I saw at Cappielow, I'd agree about Rory. Whatever talent the coaching staff see at training clearly isn't being replicated in games and the reception he gets from a section of the support clearly isn't going to help change that. Apart from that, I'd keep everyone else - we don't have the depth to rotate convincingly with a full squad at the moment, let alone cover for the injuries which will inevitably occur as the season goes on.

Rory is the only obvious one. But who would take him off our hands? He didn't exactly shine in Div 2 last season, and he seems to have got worse since then.

You couldn't lose both Djebi-Zadi and McBain, otherwise we have no real cover at left back.

Zander may be another candidate. He may have some talent, but if he's never going to get a game.....

Clach might have a place for Rory, cant see peterhead taking him back.

With regards money, maybe the board should be looking at getting some extra money from shareholders for ICT to get a couple of decent players, we have been quiet in prior Jan transfer windows, probably because we have been doing ok at this stage before.

This season is looking a wee bit more tight and a good signing might make the difference.

McGuire and Rory should have gone in the summer.

Djebi-Zadi should never have been signed.

If Brewster hasn't gone before then, then Brewster should take January as the opportune moment to hand in his highly sought after resignation.
