Dead Ball Situations

One thing about Rankin leaving is our lack of specialists at dead ball situations. Rankin certainly wasn't the greatest, and often failed to get it past the first man, but at least he could whip it in at speed.

Todays efforts were woeful. First Cowie had a go...which was crap, then Duncan...oh dear :017:. At least Barry put it where it was supposed to go, but his deliveries are too high, and too slow, and therefore easy to defend against.

Surely it can't be that hard to get the ball in at pace, and past the first man can it??

I'd suggest Brew spends a bit of time concentrating on this in training this week.

About 80% of set pieces John Rankin hit never went beyond the first man or went over everyone and out for a goal kick. We do need a set piece taker as we don't have a good one at the moment.

Our set pieces today were simply horrible. Rankin often found it hard to get it past the first defender but you knew he would get one good one in. Today no one looked capable of putting in a telling delivery.

Hope the lads get some work in on them this week and score 3 against Motherwell from 30 yards out!  :001:
